Wow!

Just seen a pic of the ex-Hill Ginetta G4 being readied for Goodwood.

Jeez, this car and its curves is gonna cause a stir when it lines up on the grid.

Looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.

A moment in history now only weeks away.

Richard Dean is down to drive - should get Mark behind the wheel and it may win!
Even better would have been Damon at the wheel.

That's good enough.

This is the ex Graham Hill test car.

Someone should tell them though to chuck those awful front plastic indicators in the bin and replace them with the proper Lucas glass ones.

Nice little story behind this car.

The idea originally was to get Jim Clark to test the car but he had to decline because being World Champion it might not have looked good for Lotus.

So Hill, the former World Champion, was asked and kindly accepted the offer.

Later, in 1965, Jim Clark was offered the chance to take one of the stints in the Sebring G4. Whether he would have done we will never know
because the car was forced to retire after 6 hours after having gone so well.

I'm trying to find out.

Pity the club couldn't have been singing the praises of this event as it really is superb (albeit expensive relatively speaking) and a large crowd of Ginetta devotees would make the day to be seen cheering this famous car on.

Right, now I know which days I'm going!

Just been told by Jay Ashton that the Ginetta G4 ex-Hill car will be racing on the FRIDAY 31st August and SATURDAY 1st SEPT.

He's getting back to me regards which category tomorrow.

Pity it's not down for Sunday.

Anyway cheaper on Fri and Sat.

GET OUT IN FORCE TO SUPPORT THE MARQUE.

Assume so.

It's down to do a test session in 2 weeks time.

Also trying to find out (jeez it is difficult when you want small info) who will be flying the WW2 Spitfire(s)?

Last year weather was crap but the flypast by '8' Spitfires was awesome.

Never found out who was flying them - my point is that if Carolyn Grace is flying this year (the only qualified female Spitfire pilot in the world) it will be ironic what with a G4 on the grid for the first time.

Carolyn is the widow of the Nick Grace who broke the lap record at Goodwood in his G4 in 1963. The Spitfire she flies is the one Nick built 'himself' almost single handed after purchasing 2 lorry loads of parts in tea chests! She learnt to fly it and never looked back.

Hi Dan

I agree with you about supporting the marque.

I've just been to Silverstone today to do a "drift" course. I took my G4 and had a blast getting there and back from London via great country roads (Aylesbury to Buckingham especially).

For the home of motor-racing, it was amazing how many people didn't know what the car was.

Here is the usual question and answer dialogue that occurs:-

Them - What is it?

Me - It's a Ginetta.

Them - Oh! It's Italian?

Me - Ho hum, no, it's English.

Them - English? Pretty car, shame they don't make them any more.

Me (silent scream) - Actually, they do and have been for nearly 50 years.

Them - Right! I see, so it's one of those kits then.

Me - Argh!

Anyway, back at Silverstone I bumped into the guys unloading the G20's for the race this week-end. They seemed genuinely delighted to see a G4 and, I am sure they would welcome a turnout from any Ginetta cars/drivers over the week-end. As Dan says - lets support the marque.

Surprised you can afford it John, on your pension - but at least you are old enough to have the period clothes still in your wardrobe...

PS - G4 rules OK!

Pension! Steady on Dave.
I'm still bashing away at the type and as for affording a ticket I usually scrounge one but no luck this year but who cares, I've paid.

Are you 'flying' down in your private jet? Pick me up at Oxford Airport biggrin

Hey, that's a point, you can assist my Revival expenditure by buying a Bo'ness Hill Climb book out in a week's time - I can even get you a real good discount on the limited numbered edition!

Are you getting ready for a hike in G4 prices?

B...dy hell, just looked at the G50 - what must that weigh!? Looks like 2inch tube.

All ready to go... have you got your Revival ticket?

NB note the subtle changes from earlier pic, ie sensible period door mirrors etc

but WHY has nobody changed those b. 'awful' plastic indicators for the proper flat glass ones?

- other than that it looks superb!

Had it's shakedown test and all went well.

Hi Geeman

I'm also going on Saturday in my G4 - I have a ticket for the pre '66 car park - perhaps we can organise a "Ginetta section"?
