hi,

can anybody tell me how the roof-panels are fitted on a t-bar car? are the panels made of fibreglass or alu?

I am assuming by this you mean the T-bar G4 Series 4? This did not have a rigid roof, but a 'pram hood' that fixed to the top of the windscreen frame and around the rear scuttle. A support rail pushed into small sockets on the roll hoop, and the GRP T-bar supported the hood down the centre ofg the car.

yeah, its a G4-S4. is it one complete roof? i thought the roof consists of 3 parts:

2 panels (made of?) for the middle and a flexible standard convertible roof-material for the back.

or am i totally wrong? is there a picture in the web which shows the construction?

i ask cause i´ve never seen the car in reality, only from pictures.

I suggest you join the GOC and speak to some G4/4 or G27 (the original, Walklett G27). The hood was a one-piece vinyl affair, with moulded fibreglass frames that fitted onto the doors.

It was not at all as sophisticated as some of the TVR roofs from the period (which had a solid, removeable centre section with a soft rear section).

You might find some pictures in John Rose's book on the marque - Ginetta, the Illustrated History.

My G27 had a T-bar piece but was only for giving a bit more support to the soft top roof (and the windscreen I guess?) There were no fibreglass panels I can ever remember seeing on other cars.

Correct.
NO panels - soft top hood only as illus here by (not very good) picture - chrise, think I took this around early 80s - those wheels were supplied at the time (this was Dick Ellingham's Series 4 - he's on the left, he is also owner of a original G4 since the early days).

This was in the days when the pub in the background had it's car park 'filled' with Ginettas. Ah, those were the days.

thanx for the picture. this is clearing up in my mind!

talked today to the guy how sells the car. he told me that the roof is there but there are some tensioning bars on the back missing. (are they really necessary?) and unfortunately there is 1 door-window missing...

will pick-up the car today afternoon, have lots of miles to drive home...and the weatherforecast doesnt make me happy at the moment...
