Any reason why EVO forgot Dare, Vemac and Invicta in their state of the British motor industry article?

Any news that PH could add that EVO missed?

I thought EVO did well to cover the number of small firms they did, normally the mainstream mags make out that Westfield and Caterham are the lower limit of the UK car building industry.

EVO?
Right, soapbox time. blabla

EVO 'is' a mainstream mag!
Owned by Dennis Publishing - who also own AUTO (DISTRESShehe) EXPRESS
(I think that's mainstream too! hehe)
I understand they have just made the acquisition of OCTANE too, surprising how long Octane held out on their own).

So when EVO prints on the front cover
The 'TRUTH' about the British Sports Car Industry
you know before you open the mag that you take it with a pinch of salt and it's basically what 'they' want to tell you.
Truth? censored

Some of the 'British' they listed are hardly fit to rub shoulders with Dare. And even includes the reincarnation of the 'Rocket' hurl a snip at 50 grand plus hehe

And you can bet in a year or two's time some of those listed will have gone to the wall (again?) possibly to be reincarnated the next time or when a Motor Show appears.

Mind you, I confess Dare doesn't help it's case, however...

As for EVO's 'EVERY performance car tested and rated'
and to run down their long list to find - almost without exception - the only marque 'forgotten' scratchchin EXCLUDED? is DARE
(omission, the deadliest weapon of Journos)
when some of the censored that is listed defies belief.

Forgotten?
Overlooked?
An error?
Whatever, it doesn't matter, because the statement printed in black and white as it stands :
'EVERY...' is NOT the 'truth'.

If I was Ivor Walklett I would have taken them to the cleaners a long time ago.

I agree with you...
But I think its not surprising they are omitted considering Dare dont advertise or market their products at all!

Tell me...

imagine you had just made a ground breaking new car, where would you publicise it in terms of showcasing it to the public, if not to the world?

An advert in the papers? An ad in the motoring mags. No... what about spending a fortune and exhibit not just your new car but variations of it and your other models too at a major exhibition.

Yep, the British International Motor Show would be about tops, wouldn't you agree?

You couldn't do any bigger for impact than that on home soil.

Big stand, lots of cars, should do the trick.

That's what Dare did in 98 and what did they get from the mainstream?

The crowds lined up to get on the Stand (I know, I was there!) - I was also there on Press Day when the Lotus 340R was unveiled in reality to a 'hmmm' response.

What I read in the mainstream the week after did not tally to what I 'actually' witnessed.

Then the road tests of the Dare DZ in the mainstream when it was 'damned with feint praise'.

Yet read the reports of the same car in the 'independent' motoring press at the same time and you would not think they were talking about the same car.

Something amiss somewhere?

Ignored and omitted but they are still going - and 2 new models (hopefully) not too far away.

I don't think there is any grand conspiracy to keep Dare out of the news, it's just that commercial magazines can see the value in printing "NEW Lotus Launched, See inside for pictures" on the cover, whereas if it said "New Dare Launched" it would only be a handful of us who didn't go "whooooo?".

There's also the fact that every profession is lazy and journos will go for the easiest story, I once heard the excellent comment "if the BBC News department was based in Grimsby, the price of Haddock would be headline news".

judgeThe Jury's out on this one imo.

As for journos and hacks going for the easiest story, I don't know.

They do (allegedly! ...what am I on about... there's no allegedly about it - I've been with 'em!!!) go for the 'free' lunch, (Dare don't do these) I mean the 'best' too! Is a 'free' lunch bribery in return for a good write up? Who knows?

However, to paint the picture a tad better, one Press Day I attended the food (and drink) on the SEAT Stand was that good I would have had the Leon on the front cover for 2 months running!biglaugh

Does EVO still forget these guys? Should they remember them? I have always been curious about the neglect of Dare myself...

Oooooooooh yes!

There is plenty of other obscure rubbish that gets featured occasionally and (usually) within months or a year disappears totally.

Yet Dare is still here and face it, ignored.

The bait is there and when they come to bite I hope Dare tell them where to *!*! *!!!

There's one very easy way that Dare could get evo drooling over their new car and singing its praises at great length. Stick a Porsche badge on it...

hehe No... LOTUS! hehe

I told Ivor once to leave their badges off altogether on any new car and then drive the car round Teddington with tape covering bits of bodywork.

Scoop! -Lehmann copyright pic

IS THIS A NEW LOTUS???
