1964 G4R rebuild
Discussion
A number of years ago, Ivor and Tom Walklett helped me to buy the ex Malcolm Douglas Ginetta G4R, that was so successful in Britain and then Canada.
During my research into the comprehensive paperwork that came with the car I found a letter confirming that Malcolm had applied to enter the 1965 Le Mans 24 hours race. I have written to ACO to see if they can provide any further details as to what happened to the application.
In the meantime, the car is being rebuilt with the hope that it is ready to race next season. I attach a photo of the car in the spray shop.

1 week after thread starts and only 1 other person has posted about this ,everyone would rather faun over a grey Audi something .
Well, it is pretty much tumble weed here. I posted a lot of info on my 2.5 litre G40R and got one reply. I wonder if people with older "classic" Ginettas are a bit snooty about the new generation ones.Anyway, this G4 looks great, but I am curious about what engine is installed.

Thanks very much!
A brave person, street parking a G40 in London. Despite the roof, somewhat leak-prone and often grounds out on traffic calming obstacles. Same with this G4 I guess, mainly a track device.
Still, we had best not hijack this thread. I hope we have more updates and some info on the G4 mechanics as well as the body.

Morning all - according to the documentation I received with the car, it was brought back to the UK in March 1989, in a very sorry state. The new owner, the late Simon Talbot, was a highly talented aircraft technician. He undertook the restoration himself, including making a flatbed chassis jig. Sadly, Simon passed away before he could finish the car to race standards. I was fortunate to buy the car in August 2014. The car has been disassembled and all usable original parts are being integrated back into the car. This is a 9 month project and I hope to supply more photos as the build progresses.
In the meantime, I am attaching photos of the car in period, the first at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Canada on 17th September 1967 (first in class) and the second, a few months earlier, on 12th June.

Fantastic cars, hope the rebuild goes well and that you can get it back out racing again.
Am I correct in thinking that the G4R had a Lotus Twin Cam?
It will be interesting to see what reply you get from the ACO about a Le Mans entry - presumably before that application the car may have been raced in other international races? If that info can be found and the car spec verified it may mean that the G4R is eligible for some interesting pre 66 historic races?

Lovely car OP, exceedingly jealous! Saw a G4R for sale a month or so back and was tempted - saddens me with the prevelance of 26R-spec Elans in historics that there's so rarely a G4/R there to give them a good fight!
Did make enquiries with the Walkletts 12 months or so back, awesome to see the support they have available for these in terms of parts/knowledge, and the fact the FIA have acknowledged the car and allowed them to run in historics. Is it 1720cc the capacity of the Lotus 'Twinks' these are now homologated with?
Look forward to pictures of the finished article
