Hi, does anyone know if the G40R's actually had the 2.0 Duratec or the 2.0 Zetec, I've come across some contradictory information, that even the Wikipedia page doesn't help solve. I expect there is a lot of crossover between the Zetec, Duratec and a Mazda derivative engines and was hoping someone could shed some light.

Thanks in advance!

I think the original G40r had the 2.0 Duratec engine with the exhaust running down the drivers side.

The G40 GRDC cars have the 1.8 zetec engine with the exhaust running down the passenger side.

Ginetta will sort a G40r with restrictors on the inlet so that they make the same power as the GRDC cars so you can race in the series.

Not sure if they used the 2.0 zetec

If it were me, I'd look for a zetec car as to not get cooked by the exhaust, wouldnt be fussed about the power.

But my ginetta days are a long way off, I missed a cheap G40r a few years ago and never looked since.

What's the deal with gearboxes? I understand it's mx5 but have seen some with the 5 speed and others with the 6 speed. If I am correct the 5 speed has a cranked stick with alloy knob and the 6 speed has a shorter stick with the MX5 knob?

my G40R duratec has had both the bent stick and straight stick fittecd on the 5 speed box. I prefer the look of the straight stick and from an ergonomics point of view it works well for me.
