Any G20 Road legal car on the market?
Discussion
Hi mates,
having some experience with TVR, i´m deeply impressed about the styling of the G20.
Unfortunately i´ve never seen her on the road or had an opportunity to take place to see how the feeling is in the car.
I´m 6 ft high with about 80kg.
Often discussed, i know there is no roof-option, no doors etc., but that won´t be a problem for me, as i think it´s necessary wearing a helmet.....
Any experience or helpful informations on the G20?
Enough space to sit?
Any car on the market?
RHD or LHD doesn´t matter...
I´ve seen some (older) adverts with registrations in the 80/90s, but the car starts production from 2001?
Thanks for any help, kind regards from south germany

Hi,
I've had my G20 a little while now and think it's great fun. I always wear a helmet whilst driving for a bit of protection however the aero screen is more effective than I thought it'd be. Although it would be nice to have a tailored emergency cover for the cockpit I've managed so far without! I'm not quite as tall as you and I weigh around 50/55kg and it's comfortable for me, but I'd probably try and test fit into one as the cockpits are fairly compact.
The majority of G20s use the zetec engine meaning running costs are low, also a lot of the other parts used are Ford as well. There are a couple of good specialists in the UK that could help with sourcing parts/giving information, you could also try contacting the Ginetta owners club as well. on parts if required as well. The padded seats in mine are surprisingly comfortable given how firm the suspension is and I can do long journeys without getting any pain from driving it, although it wasn't really designed to be comfortable or refined. Driving wise I think it's a great car for the money, adequately fast enough to have fun.
One has recently come up for sale in the Netherlands and I've put the link below, although this is unusual as it has a rotary engine. Road going cars are quite thin on the ground so rarely come up for sale.

Hi Matt,
thanks for your soon reply.
Yes i´ve seen the yellow one on catawiki. The rotary engine is not my favorite, but i will have a look on the auction.
There is another one

cheers

Hi Reidhard,
The rotary engined car is unusual and wouldn't be my first choice either but everyone's different. I'm afraid I don't know the red G20 but did seen the advert a little while ago, I didn't realise it was still for sale. If you're going to buy one that is probably the best one you'll get looking at the work carried out and specification listed.
I did a few quick measurements for you, for me there is adequate room for my legs and have done quite long journeys without any pain caused. I'm around 5ft10 for reference.
Drivers side only compartment width is roughly 16.5inches (41.9cm)
My seat width is roughly 13.5inches (34.2cm)
From the pedals to back of the base of the seat is roughly 40.5inches (102.8cm)
Hope this helps a little.
Kind regards,
Matt

the g20 junior has a roof...a fixed roof...the car is a coupé....
i was owning a G4/S4, a early G27 and must say: the G20 is similar inside in terms of size. i´m 173cm, 70kg
price is very difficult matter...most, as beeing a race car, have not been road registered...values: low.
the rarer road registered ones are often overpriced, imo.
and the next problem is: anything registered later than 1992 "officially" needs and injection system with (controlled) catalytic converter to get it re-registered in germany. you wont find such a config in the usual UK-car.
stories from people telling you "a car which has was already registered within an EU country, also needs to be re-registered in another member-sate is not correct."...it all depends on reg-date and emissions.
emission classification is done in UK based on the engine age, or if beeing a qplate its a visual smoke test only. in germany and most other eu-stated the emission class is based in the reg-date.

the one in belgium looks like it has a dodgy registration....1989 reg-date on a G20...no way!!!!!
would be "interesting" to see the VIN number.....would not wonder if it would come from a Ginetta Model built somewhere end of the 80ies.....

Not necessarily. An age related plate using an 1989 donor would at the time have resulted in a 1989 dated reg. One or two were built with pintos when first launched and it was a budget kit option at the launch so not necessarily dodgy. One of ginettas own demo cars was built to demonstrate the budget route and got a 'd' reg plate post sva - I remember as I bought my kit at the time.
sva came 1996....the car is from ~2001....it always had this zetec engine fitted...the story might be like this: .it was an original LHD car....donor car / age-related registratins are a UK thing...nowhere else in europe existing....the car was built as a LHD car outside UK, hence never registered in UK, after the car was completed it was clear that outside UK this car would need to be regsitered as a new car...with all rules / laws from 2001, incl. cat for emissions...quite impossible to fullfill all this for a reasonable price....than suddenly a v5c from a UK G26 was swimming over the chanel and the car was treated like a pre-uk registered car...ask the seller about the chassis number.....

the seller is giving clear details:
-car is an original LHD car
-the zetec was fitted from beginning
but when you ask about the registration....the communication gets quiet.....and when you go there and view the car (respective let a friend, not living so far away view the car) the VIN is "interesting"

Hi everybody,
Some of you seem to have a large knowledge about Ginetta, and G20 in particulary.
I'm looking for some info about mine, that i bought last year.
It believed to be a "factory built car", LHD, and sold to the previous ( and first) owner in nov.2006.
The VIN number is 06200130 and the type approval number is AA250704.
Does anyone can tell me anything about it ?
Thanks for your help.

As far as I am aware they were never type approved. The number may refer to the MAC certificate issued after IVA but I can't be sure.
Hello James!IVA - Individual Vehicle Approval - relates to Type Approval of vehicles in the UK but some seem to still think it means 'crash tested'.
It's all vague and more complicated to what it used to be - years ago if a vehicle had been 'type approved' you could be almost sure it had been through the statutory crash test at MIRA.
If the G20 was 'crash tested' it's a new one on me!
Oh, and re your other thread point, yes, 60th anniversary of Ginetta next year (I forget which month in 1958 it was founded - think it was March?)
