Hi,

I'm interested in knowing whats changed / been sorted / been added on the G40.

I've always like the look of them and at the beginning of the month I was at Silverstone with the factory trying out the G40 GRDC.
I was in with Michael Broadhurst for two of the three sessions and he gave some very good instruction, much better than the first guy i was in with.

I have a kit car so im used to small with no driver aids. I found it a little slow on the straights, but good fun in the corners, but those brakes, awesome! im looking to get that sort of feel in the Fury now.

Anyway what with the GRDC cars being road legal its got me thinking and reading.

I've gone through a lot of the threads on here and seen that the exhaust under next to the leg gets a bit warm, but thats for the G40R as its duratec, so now issue with the zetecs.

Also there are a lot of comments about fumes. I know of a guy (met him once at a kit car do) that had a G40R and he cut holes in the rear screen to try to vent.
Have these issues been sorted now?

Finally, im guessing that a few more GRDC cars hit the market in September as that's the last race. Would I be correct in thinking that?

Edit: why do some cars have light covers and others dont?
Thanks

Dave

Hopefully this answers a couple of your questions. It's based on the knowledge of my G40R (chassis 2) and one visit to the factory. i.e. I may have lots wrong, however the changes that I noticed between my car and the other cars are as follows.

GDRC cars.
1. Door locks, my car only has a key opening on the drivers door.
2. Door locks, my car has the drivers side key opening about 5 cm below the normal location on most cars directly below the door handle as can be seen on this photo of the car.

3. Gear stick, the earlier cars have a swan neck gear stick my car was originally fitted with this but has had a straight stick retrofitted.
4. Seats, the newer cars have a much nicer seat with Ginetta embodied on to them, the seats have been retrofitted to my car by the previous owner.
5. Dashboard, the newer cars have the centre switch panel and gauges point towards the driver by about 20 degrees or so and an acces pannel for the fuses and relays. My dash is in line access to the fuses and relays is by reaching behind the dash. I plan to change my dash at some point as the new one feels nicer, and the improved access to the fuses and relay would be nice if ever needed.
6. Radiator, Two different sizes of radiator are fitted to Duratec cars. This is based on ordering a new one and being asked what size I had fitted to the car.
7. Steering wheel, there is now an option for a deep dish steering wheel, i suspect this works well for long legs and short arms.

The race cars have
1. Smaller wheels, as they don't need to clear the hand break calliper at the rear.
2. Gear box mount, is different on GT5 sequential gearboxes cars.
3. Headlight flaring on the bonnet, there are no lights or light brackets fitted just stickers. I was told that the reason that this is not offed on the road cars is because all the lights are CE marked and you would need to have the light shroud tested if fitted to ensure conformity. Having said this I would like headlight covers for my car.

I have never had a problem with fumes in the car, either with or with out the wing fitted.

Hello,
I have just bought a 2015 registered GRDC car. First proper long run in it today after having the geo done and a few tweaks and I am impressed.

Will be used primarily as a weekend road car with a few tack days a year. Covered 120miles in it cross country this morning and had a blast.

Exhaust needs work though, hitting the chassis at every opportunity it seems. Not a great design down the sill with only millimetres to clear. I should add mine is a zetec engined version not duratec.

Just to pick up on a few things above:

- mine has doors locks in the intended place just below the handle and locks both sides.

- deep dish OMP wheel

- locking bonnet catches

- rear wing (I actually don’t like it for a road car but fixed through bootlid)

- cup holder rolleyes

- no fumes in cabin

Thanks for the replys guys.

When did the fumes in the cabin get sorted (which year), or is it an exhaust thing where the tail pipe didnt stick out far enough from the back of the car causing the gas to leak beak in from the boot?

My car is number two and has no issues with the exhaust fumes in the cabin, maybe worth looking at the exhaust vband clamps on any you are considering and ensuring they are tight? The noise from the exhaust rattling up against the chassis happens on my Duratec car as well I have adjusted to get this a bit better in the past but it tends to come back.

I also had a wing for my car but removed it as I prefer the looks of the car, I reinstalled the dome head fasteners with out the wing it looks ok. I cant tell the difference apart from rear visibility being better. Also it is worth checking the end plates of the wing and posibaly adding a drop of thread lock to the fasteners as mine came lose.

The fule gauge i my car stops working every 6 months or so. when the pin that sends the fuel level signal to the gauge pops out of the conector at the gauge giving no level signal. Its a 5 min "fix" but happens every so often.

@jamesG20V6
Do you have any pictures of the dash?
Do you have air con? I find in my car as the exhaust is in the divers sill it gets hot in trafic with out the air con.
What tyers are you running? The avon ZZR are amazing in the dry as I don't have god like driving skills require respect in the wet.

one last edit,

Has any one found a fast way to get petrol in to the car? I get the pump clicking off a lot when filling.

I will post some pIcs up when I get chance to take some.

Exhaust is dire - I temporarily fixed it by undoing clamps and mounts etc and resetting but after an hour of running it was back in its old position and banging the chassis at low revs. I think I am going to have to look at an almost solid mounted side and rear section with a decent flexi up front. Not ideal, but the side pipe on my car runs in aluminium channel with only mm of clearance.
I suspect some of the guys claiming exhaust fumes may actually have had hot cat / GRP fumes from the cat getting hot close the grp bodywork. I have fixed this one easily with a revised heat shield.

No air con, no heater box at all. Heated front by screen. I suspect I will retro fit air con.

I was warned about it being difficult to fill up but I filled it the other day, forgot all about it. Stick the nozzle in and filled it as i wouldvthe daily no problem.

Anyone know how many litres it holds? Fuel gauge seems to change its mind by the minute.

The other thing I did, after driving the car all of 5 miles was book it into Track Developments to see what was going on with the suspension set up as although it felt ok on the road it was a bit harsh.

Anyway, the car was set up with only 65mm o ride height which in turn resulted in 4degrees negative Camber on the front wheels. It was also toeing out both front and rear which accounted for its lively ness and wanting to go anywhere other than in a straight line when pushing on. The front springs were also 800lb which was a bit of a shock.

Anyway, after a few calculations and measurements on set up, it has now been set up to be slightly more road friendly and corner weighted.

The transformation was night and day - I can now push it without the worry of it trying to change ends at a snap - far more progressive which is better for me as a road car.
