It looks like Ginetta are abandoning all attempts to get the G60 project off the ground,

I'm just not sure what the strategy is in Leeds. They have made a lot of race cars but not sure they are actually making a profit.

The G40 is no longer available as a road car either.

I don't think there was ever much interest in the G60 - once you start looks at costs and refinement too many people choose a second hand Porsche or similar. Great if you want to sell a handful of cars but not if you actually want to make any money from them!

The race cars definitely make money! Where do you think all the new bonnets and so on come from?

The LMP3 project probably took up all their time as well as any spare money that may have been spent on the G60 stuff.

They would have to make a staggering profit to repay the investment that has been made in ginetta in recent years. I can't see how it is sustainable from selling g40 and 55race cars, irrespective of how many bonnets and spares are sold.

It is curious that it is trying to be sold under the radar - a mobile phone number for an individual in Lancashire?
I guess publically selling off your flagship model is probably not good for business.

A real shame, it was a good looking car before it had plastic vents stuck all over the back of it.

Ginetta needs to build a decent road car, perhaps the G60 was too ambitious and the G40 just not ambitious enough to generate sales. A talented designer would help, I love ginetta but none of the recent In house cars have been good enough in terms of styling to really generate interest, irrespective of the driving experience they need to look good and excite.

I think that you have hit the nail on the head when you say that people would rather buy a second hand Porsche (or an Elise or Caterham). The Ginetta road cars are just not special enough, and finished well enough, to attract enough buyers and the competition is fierce.

I actually think they need to build a simple and robust alternative to a Caterham. Let's call it a..... G4. Yes, I know they don't own the rights and are not interested in the heritage, but they'd probably make more moneyif they bought the rights back and put it into production.

As for the race cars, I'm sure the spars business does well but I tend to think that LNTs other businesses are probably subsidising his hobby/ passion.

Fair enough.

My posts reread a bit negative, they are not meant to be, I would enjoy being in the position of owning ginetta and having the ability to keep it going. I just would love to see a viable road road car sell in worthwhile numbers. I have considered a g40 several times but it is just not quite livable with as a road car in the way that my old Elise was. Not expecting creature comforts, that isn''t ginetta, just enough to make it possible to use now and again for everyday journeys if the need arises, a bit like tvr and lotus really.

A tough challenge.

The "individual in Lancashire", Ewan Baldry, is a Ginetta employee. Used to own and design Juno race cars (and previously worked for Williams) but I think LNT bought the Juno company and Baldry came too. I think he has a role as Chief designer or something. I assume that the G57 is his baby.

I haven't read all of this, so forgive me, but it would seem that the money is going in the right direction and they're happy with the Ginetta part of the Group.

from the link above, although it only mentions turnover...

"
The LNT accounts also show that race car manufacturer Ginetta made strong progress towards its strategic goals, increasing turnover by 28.5 per cent. Improvements to its car range means Ginetta now offers a full portfolio of GT and prototype race cars which has led to growing demand from international markets, in particular for the G57 sports prototype range.

Lowe added: "We are excited by what 2017 has in store for Ginetta. We have spent a decade investing heavily in the car range with 2016 taking us firmly into the world of prototype racing with our G57."

I really hope the G57 sells well. Ginetta virtually invented the LMP3 category but seem to have fallen out with the ACO for some reason and the LMP3 car of choice seems to be the Ligier now.

It would be great to see the category thrive and not be a quasi one make series.
