As I begin the reassembly process on my Ginetta G20 Basket Case (See here: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/66/viewthrea... ) I started thumbing through the Assembly Notes book.

Most of the nuts, bolts, etc are common and easily purchased, but there are some items that may either be Ginetta specific or are not closely described.

Does Ginetta still carry and sell parts for the G20? Their website has no mention of the G20 and my efforts to contact them with questions through their website have all gone unanswered.

Just as an example, for the rear differential there are two Rubber Mount "Top Hat"s required. Without knowing the correct dimensions I would have to dig up a micrometer and guess at the right apart to find... somewhere...

Surely others have been down this road with their own projects. Any help to offer? Thanks!

BY THE WAY: I'm in Germany, so popping by someone's place to have a look at theirs for comparison is a bit cumbersome as well.

Hi Rob,

I'm not sure if Ginetta still hold any parts for the G20, but I guess them not getting back to you isn't a good sign. I recently purchased a set of wheels for my G20 from an ex G20 racer who told me about Reflex racing (link below), he told me they did hold a large quantity of spares for the G20 although as the race series faded out I guess their stock would of disappeared as well. Might be worth contacting them still as they may have some information that may help you.

Kind regards,
Matt

Sadly, the factory has nothing for cars pre-G40. Some things, like side marker lights are the same, so they have that sort of thing. The spares manager was hired in after the G20 production ended, so he has no personal knowledge as to what came from where.

Mine is a bit different from yours, as I have the US road version. Chassis and suspension is mostly the same. Mazda engine and trans are the main difference. Send my an email. I can usually get back to you with pictures or measurements within a week.

The diff fitting and mounts are shown pretty well in the build manual.

Thanks guys!

I am in contact with Jon Greenwood that apparently bought a lot of the G20 parts stock from Ginetta when they dumped the G20.

He said he doesn't have a lot of the parts anymore, but he has some cross reference information. I'll share whatever I find out.

Since I want to eventually swap to the Miata drivetrain I will likely be asking for some photos. Thanks!

Let me know what Jon has, or better yet, pass on his email.

Thanks,

Firstly do contact the owner's club. There's a lot of knowledge and many people who've had to find parts.

Secondly there are spares at Ginetta but it really isn't their priority. They had a "tame" guy willing to help but unfortunately he left. I did have a spreadsheet of parts they had 4 or 5 years ago, not all of them they knew what they where.

I'd Deffo start at the Owner's Club though.

I asked Jonny about sharing his contact information and his reply was, "The more the merrier!!"

He was chatting with some of the guys at Croft at the weekend and he thinks he can get his hands on most of the bits I would need.

There are also some good upgrades that Ginetta developed for the G40 that also fit the G20.

Here is his email: jon.greenwood@york.ac.uk

I finally pulled the suspension parts out of the shed this weekend to see what I had to work with...

Unfortunately, I am missing so many parts I can't really get started on anything.

Things like ball joints, bushings, wish bone adjusters, track rods,... not to mention just the specific nuts and bolts you can't just pick up at your local hardware store... I've got a long way to go... LOL

I've sent Jonny and Duncan emails... Hopefully one of them will be able to get me pointed in the right direction. More to follow.

Most of the stuff is easy. I think that I sent you my interchange list. The difficult thing is the tie rod end. Jon says you are better off with a G40 or g50 rack, but it is expensive.

Hey Mike,

I don't recall you sending me an interchange list. I think you sent me the digital assembly manual(?) I would love to have that parts list!

Front upright and bearings are ford sierra
Rear hubs are all ford sierra, as are drive shafts and diff CV Shaft shortened to 15.5 Inches
Gearbox is type 9 ford sierra / mazda on the US version

Hey Mike,

Do you recall where the motor and gearbox mounts are sourced from to install the Mazda drivetrain? I can't imagine that they are the same as for the Ford parts..?

Thanks again!

The metal bits were welded up by Ginetta. The rubber mounts were Escort or Volvo as indicated on my list. I would stick with Ford. I think you will get more power at a lower cost.

Hye everybody,

I bought a LHD G20 that was sleeping in a garage in Marbella for probably some years, and that have been deeply modified inside : the body has been cut, so the lateral panel of the chassis to make more place for the driver.
I'm in touch with Mark at DSE since last week because i began to distante the car for a big over all.
I'm looking for all information about parts, suspension and wheel triming that ça, help me with. I'm registred on the Ginetta fan page and be happy to have contact with anyone. Actualy, my G20 is the only one in LHD in France, so won't find many friends by my home !

Looks great smile , will try and help if I can although Mark at DSE knows a G20 from top to bottom. I visited him earlier in the year and the quality of his G20 rebuild is fantastic.
