Is anyone here using the MX5/Miata drivetrain in their G20?

I need to know what parts are required to change over from the Zetec/Type 9/Sierra parts to the MX5. (Other than the obvious engine/transmission and differential).

What mounts, etc are available, or is it a complete "make it yourself" ordeal?

Thanks!

G20s were sold in the US using the full Mazda MX5 running gear. There are a few members who post here on the forum who are from the US and have such cars, one supercharged IIRC.

Engine and tranny are Miata on the 20 or so G20s imported to the US. All of the suspension remained stock Ginetta uprights with Sierra components. I had thought about making some modifications an incorporate some more Miata suspension bits. Some parts can be sourced from Haynes roadster suppliers, as they use both, Sierra and Miata options.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the feedback.

Mike T., Did you design parts of the G20? Sorry if that is a silly question. I'm very new to this. I had never heard of Ginetta until I started looking for a "Locost type project" and someone posted they had a G20 for sale.

The research I've done thus far has really won me over to these cars. I'm really looking forward to this!

Hi,

I hit a curb that resulted in some rear suspension damage. I used some Locost Sierra parts to make some steel rear uprights. Sierra parts (Merkur XR4Ti in US) are getting hard to find, so I started thinking about the Miata parts. There are places in the UK and on eBay, like PlazCuts, that make the difficult parts. Then, you just need to jig and weld. The completed uprghts are different from the locost parts, but many of the components are the same. It shouldn't be too hard to make jigs to go to Miata.
