Hi All,

I've just come out of 7 years of Lotus Elise ownership, which I've enjoyed no end,so in the market for another sports car. I've got a few possibles that I'm weighing up, one of which might be a G20. There's a white and blue one currently on the classified section. So I was hoping that you guys on here, might be able to give me some advice on buying and owning a G20. Any advice would be appreciated, as there's not a lot on the web about the road going ones, very little to compare it with, in terms of condition, price etc...

Hoping to get a response from the guys in the knowledge..

Cheers,

Paul

You have to consider life with a crash helmet or goggles on from this point onwards.....

Thanks for the advice on helmet/googles, I'd kind of dealt with that one in my head. Any more guidance from anyone would be much appreciated.

There are very few road going ones, hence the lack of info. I suspect that they are relativley simple to look after and with modern engine etc should be reliable too. There certainly won't be much to go wrong!

I also suspect that there is no roof at all, no heater etc

Will be great fun, but more raw and less comfy than an Elise (if the G33 is anything to go by)

The G20 was quite a major step forward over the G33 and the bonded floor pan and lack of doors made it a lot more rigid. I do still have the initial road tests done by which kit (I think)as a road car I can dig out. Id check the SVA book on anything that might trip you up design wise if turning an ex race car into a road car.

Hi,

I bought a G20 2 years ago to replace my S2 elise race car, I was after something cheaper to race (and crash) which it has turned out to be, no idea on the road but on track they are great fun, I am busy putting a V6 into mine as I thought the old engine was a little low on grunt but that is always the case when racing.

I built one for SVA and ran it on the road for a couple of years and then ended up with the only road registered coupe.
Great car, designed to pass SVA and a cracking road car. You do need a helmet really although pub runs possible with good glasses.

Deserves a pic.

Didn't it do a Bonnie Tyler, James? (lost in France) smile

That still looks one hell of a car.
Non, je ne regrette rien, James?

Sometimes when I look at that picture I regret letting it go, I wish I carried on with it but we can all look back and wish. I've just found a cd with a load of build pics on it. I think it was rebuilt after it's meeting with the armco as I'm sure it was advertised somewhere. Anyway I do know of a certain blue G20 gtc rolling shell gathering dust and cobwebs in the corner of a workshop not far from me. Next step up a G50 I believe.

Me too. But then life moves on and new experiences arrive.

It was fixed after the shunt which I think was quite minor. It was sold on not long after I sold it i believe and is still in France? It had a french plate last I saw of it, but quite how that happened I don't know. The GT bonnet went to Spadge at Ginetta Heritage who fitted it to the G27 he re-built as G20 Coupe and although a much more raw affair, I believe is also road registered.

Pie_Boy, I assume you are taking out a Zetec - if you (or anyone else)are thinking of getting rid of engine mounts, exhaust manifold, and possibly any other transplant bits, I may be interested in buying them from you, as I am about to transplant a Zetec into my '20. Cheers
