G40r and G40 Club
Discussion
Right let me get this right.
Both the G40r and G40 club are road legal and have very similar specifications although the club is a 1.8 with LSD and the 'r' is a 2.0 ?
But i cant see where the £6k difference in price comes from or the reason to but the G40r especially as you get a decent package thrown in with Club. I was set to buy the 'r' but now im thinking about buying a club so I can afford it now rather than in 6 months, and then upgrading to a 2.0. Unless im totally missing something.
The differences I can see are....
GINETTA G40 DRIVERS CLUB CAR £24250
FULLY ASSEMBLED FROM THE GINETTA FACTORY
ROAD REGISTERED
12 MONTHS ROAD TAX
TWO TRACK DAYS WITH TUITION
ARDS RACING LICENCE PACKAGE
FOUR RACE WEEKENDS INCLUDING PRESTIGIOUS UK GRAND PRIX CIRCUITS
PRACTICE, QUALIFYING AND TWO RACES AT EACH EVENT SUPPORTING BRITISH GT
1.8 LITRE
LSD
5 POINT HARNESSES
RACE SEATS
GINETTA G40R ROAD CAR £29900
2.0 Engine
No LSD?
am I wrong...... I hope I am! Because Id hate to pay for a race event that I cant get too.

24250 + vat....though I think the package looks really good - social side looks good (ie the club) and the chance to race with like minded people at least a few times looks great.
Looking at resale now bet you could upgrade to a 2.0 for not much money at the end of a year too...hmmmm....

As with most deals that look too good to be true, I would check out the fine print and look at what you don't get, as much as looking at what you do get.
If you're going racing, you will need other kit plus spares and replacements and not just things like tyres and brake pads either. You will probably need the aircon / heater pack and you'll want the sound deadening pack which are both listed as GRDC options. You'll also need a race suit, helmet gloves etc and possibly the HANS device (could be mandatory), again all these are options with GRDC. Add on top of that the potential for bodywork replacements, lights etc in the event of prangs and I doubt there is much difference in costs. A final point would be to check out the warranty situation. If you buy a G40R, take to road and things go wrong, you can legitimately claim for repairs. If you take the racing option and thrape the car around the track at weekends, it could be a very different legal scenario.
I'm not wanting to sound negative, and it could be a great deal once you've added up all the costs involved, but imho its best to fully understand the implications before making a decision.

I still dont thing you get the heaters / Aircon or sound deadening with a G40r. Im going for a factory tour and discussion cause im not sure what the spec is now on the cars as its evolving all the time. Good morning guys,
I have just been reading all of the posts on our new Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.
The G40R and the club car are very different, and the price reflects this.
The G40 club car is very close to the GT5 race car, we use the Zetec engine of which we have a large amount in stock, it has no interior trim, no sound deadening. The car is very basic, and the labour element is somewhat reduced over the G40R.
This is a new initiative for Ginetta to bring fresh people into Motorsport. All manufactures, clubs, circuits, promoters are fishing in the same pond for drivers. Ginetta want to be different and open Motorsport up to a wider audience. We have proven career paths to take drivers from karting to single seater / Le Mans, but until now we have nothing in place for an enthusiast. We are fully committed to this going into schools and educating children on motorsport not just as a passion, but as a career. We want the next generation to grow up thinking Motorsport is accessible and have Ginetta as their first thought.
The racing element of the club is seriously subsidised by Ginetta which shows our passion and drive to get new people into racing. Our aim is for the new customers to enjoy the exclusive club atmosphere and hopefully progress up the Ginetta ladder.
The GRDC comes complete for £24,250 + VAT, you get the car with 12 months tax, two track days with tuition, master class on your car, ARDS package, four race weekend provisionally supporting British GT and a trip to Le Mans as a guest of Lawrence Tomlinson. We will incentivies people to drive their car to the races, possibly by giving extra championship points and we will not be allowing teams to run cars. Ginetta will put up easy up awnings and have 3 floating mechanics to assist you. You are more than welcome to bring your own mechanic, or hire one from Ginetta. The weekend will be fun and relaxed with a BBQ in the evening.
The only optional extras on the car are: -
Touring Pack - air con, heater, carpets, sound deadening, interior trim - £2,500
VBOX linked to data logging - £1,500
Bespoke GRDC car cover - £300
Tribos Bodywork treatment - £400
Ginetta official suit, helmet, boots, gloves - £1,200
Hans Device - £400
Metallic Paint - £2,500
Car trailer - £2,000
Race harness (passenger seat) - £214.80
The car comes ready to race with FIA extinguisher, seat, harness and engine kill switch.
The G40R is selling very well also, we currently have 14 orders in build with lead times pushing into March next year.
What do you think guys?
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers for the input Mike .... I could place my order but still waiting to sell..... http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/k...
