I've spent all day trying to find information on these cars and to be honest there isn't much out there.

Can anybody provide information and hopefully answer a few questions I have.

I understand you have to speak to Ginetta directlyto order a new one and leave a 30% deposit before the order will be placed. How long would you expect to wait between placing the order and collecting the car? Are there any on the second hand market? How long have they been in production, and roughly how many are in use today?

Could any owners provide their experiances of the car? I would use it as a daily runner, and the fuel consumption worries me. 29mpg from the 2.0 duratec seems very low to me, especially as the car is so light (the G60 achieves 31mpg with a 3.7V6 and 310hp according to Ginetta) so surely the G40R should be more efficient.

Also, I've heard mentions of the power output being nearer 200hp than the quoted 175hp quoted by Ginetta. Taking this further (I know the numbers aren't the be all and end all) but the 0-60 in 5.8secs seems slower than it should be(bearing in mine the Elise 111s managed this in 5.1secs with 156hp and no LSD). Does second gear end at 59mph or is there more to this?

I know the number 1 answer would be to speak to Ginetta directly about this, but I would like to get an idea if this car is a faesable option before bothering them really.

I got a hlpful email from their sales dept which covered some of your points, so I would just give them a call.

Only just started production, but effectively built to order. 4 months between deposit and collection was what I recall from the reply (don't have access to my emails right now). They do have a demo at their HQ.

Fuel consumption does not bother me, so I didn't ask, but comfort on longer trips on M-way/DC (necessary evil) would - difficult to assess without actually trying one, and I am a bit away from their base unfortunately.

Your profile says you're in Yorkshire, the Ginetta factory is in Leeds... surely it would be easiest to pop over there and see for yourself?

Hi Stotty

The car runs 200 bhp and weighs around 850 kg depending on spec.

The car has just won it's first race in total "as you buy it" trim, it was driven to the track and back on it's Michelin tyres - I think it is the car autocar as a long term tester.

We don't tend to really bothersome much about 0-60 times, ultimately if it weighs what it weighs and has the power it has (we BHP rolling road test every car) and is cetainly quick enough. The consumption figures are also look poor but we don't 'fix' them .... Apparently my old petrol range rover sport did 20 mpg on paper...... Yeah right!

Driven daily it will give good consumption, probably a bit less than an Elise but amazing relative to it's performance.

Call round the factory - give Mike Simpson a call or email him on mike.simpson@ginetta.com he also drove the car this weekend at Cadwell

Thanks

Lawrence

That's a nice piece of marketing but should have added this link.

Last time I saw a car winning by more than 20 seconds was the Ginetta G4.

Thanks Lawrence, 200bhp sounds good, I think the website still says 175.

I see your target audience (primarily track use) wouldn't have the same requirements as me as I'd be looking for a daily runner, a special one at that smile

I'm only a few miles from your factory so I'll get in contact and pop round when I'm in the situation where I can buy the car. As it stands I have to fix and then sell my current commuter before I can even weigh up if I can afford to buy outright.

What an achievement eek

This definately encourages me, the performance of one of these on a B road must be immense.

I also love how the car is so different, I'm pretty sure I could turn up at Malton and it would get lots of attention even when alongside much more expensive machinery.

Have a word with Lawrence and see if he'll let you borrow the demo car for the next Big Breakfast. You may have to fight me for it though.

I want a passenger ride if you get hold of one. You thinking of trading yours against a G40R??

I would if buying one was imminent, I wouldn't want to bother people for what could be a pipe dream smile

Nice idea though.

I really want to see Ginetta do well with this car, if only to shut up the miserable sods who claim it's impossible to make any money selling such a thing.
