G33c Was it a Ginetta production car ?
Discussion
Hello. Am interested in the G33c
Did Ginetta make the Cosworth engined G33 (G33c I think it is called) as a production car or are they all conversions of what were originally V8 cars. I have heard the story about the original one being stolen from the factory but can’t find any mention of others. If they did make them any idea approximately how many they made ? Also heard a story about most of the V8 G33 cars being delivered with the front suspension partly assembled so it could be called a kit to avoid VAT and full type approval.

Steve the G33 cosworth was a factory option and some were made but as I understand it they could not buy complete engines and had to buy piece parts which made it an expensive option . The cars were low volume type approved and sold including VAT but I stand to be corrected

Yes have seen that yellow one about, I wonder if it was originally a V8 and has been converted. Seems to be the only Cosworth one In existence, If it is a genuine 33C it is certainly a rare example.
I am not sure. The owner frequents the Ginetta G33 Group on Yahoo. The Ginetta Owners Club may have more infoThere was a factory demo with Cosworth power, that did get a road test in a car mag at some point, and scared the driver somewhat to put it mildly, and yes that car did get stolen from the factory. Origionally the G33 was sold as a complete car- the bit about the suspension was just to avoid type approval so it could be classified as a kit. The G33 "series 2" could be ordered complete as Cosworth or V8 power, but I have no idea of the numbers sold, Ive never seen one in the flesh.
Ginetta resisted selling the car as a kit, as they where trying to compete with the likes of TVR, and did not want their premier car being devalued as a "kit" car. Things changed as Ginetta ran into financial difficulty so a few G33 kits where sold off both in V8 and Cosworth form in the late 1990's . Most of the 4 pot effort went into the G34 that had the volvo equivalent of the Cosworth lump in it, and a much better chassis by all counts, but all but one of these are left hand drive, and where sold in Sweden by the Gin-1 company (Gin-etta in swedish). There is only 1 UK car, and I doubt the owner would sell it. The yellow car mensioned was Cosworth kit, not a conversion.
