According to Ginetta Facebook page Vicky Parrot of Autocar is getting a G40R on long term test.

Not much point giving it to Autocar though, is it? Its going to be a glowing review regardless. No doubt it will be "surprisingly easy to live with" "extremely comfortable on the road for a track car" and "have no real compromise". The fact that they are doing a long term test through the summer says it all really. I'll wager come December, the test will be long finished. Why don't they give one to Car and Driver or AMS and get some constructive feedback?

You sound like I used to sound.

Perhaps I've mellowed with age? biggrin
Regardless, with long term cars Autocar do regular (sometimes lengthy) appraisals every couple months or so that keeps it in the eye.

Can't believe I've just said that about Autocar... I really have mellowed.

I'll go and have a lie down... ahh, can't, I have work to do!
When can I retire? wink

It'll be great to keep the G40 in the press for sales I'm sure, but let's hope the people at Ginetta don't start believing all the b@#llocks and take their eye off the ball. Sales won through headlines claiming the G40 is better than the Boxster won't help the company. It happened at TVR, and Aston and Jaguar under Ford and the cars suffered as a result.

Surely it would be the Caymen rather than the Boxster.

"Better" is subjective, unless you specify exactly how. I'd quite like a G40R, but have no interest in owning a Boxster, so for me the Ginetta would be the "better" car.

The G40 is a great car and I would love one as a toy, but trust me - there is no way on earth that a sane person would say that it is a better car that a Cayman S - believe me, I know.... I don't think it is a better road car than a G32, but I confess to being very biased!

Much better to compare it with Lotus' offerings...

Like I said, "better" is subjective. I would think about a G40 to sit in the spot my Elise occupies. I wouldn't even consider a Boxster for that role, though I would certainly think about replacing the wife's 350Z with one. A Boxster simply isn't a lightweight sportscar.

My original post was a warning that, someone looking to buy a boxster or similar who gets persuaded to buy a G40 instead because Autocar claim the G40 is superior is going to be seriously disappointed, like you would be. I'm not talking about people who are car fans and who know these things, but people who buy cars because car fans rate them. Like the 911 in the 80's if you will. I don't think we disagree on this point.

Anyone who buys a car without test driving it first and making his own mind up deserves whatever he gets! He would probably be able to work out that a Porsche would be a nicer form of transport for commuting in just by sitting in it.

They've got a pre-production car atm, but meant to be picking up a production one soon.

They seem to like it so far.
