Hi All,

I have just returned from living overseas for 7 years and now need to get my G27S4 through IVA so I can use it here. The car was only 3/4 built when I emigrated, so was never put through the SVA test. It successfully passed the New Zealand LVVA test and has been used over there ever since.

For the IVA test, I need to know the design weight of the car and the individual axle weights. I would also appreciate any help on a contact within Ford so I can get an official document from them confirming the age of my engine.

It appears that the G27 is no more. I purchased the kit from Martin Phaff around 10 years ago. I contacted Ginetta but they now only do the G20 and G40 and cannot help with technical stuff on the 27

Sorry I've lost touch with what has been happening on the Ginetta front over the last few years. Any general help wold be much appreciated

Thanks,

Steve.

Hello,
some parts of the G27 project moulds were sold by Phaff to GKD Sports Car, which was building a kit car based on it, the GKD Evolution with a slightly different bonnet shape.
GKD is also selling spare parts for the original G27 bodywork ( see http://www.gkdsportscars.com/ginetta_g27_upgrades.... )
Some months ago I saw that GDK is now selling their original G27 moulds ( see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ginetta-G27-Business-Project... ).
Bye
Luigino.

Hi Steve,

My G27 went through SVA in 2000 with a 2.0 Pinto engine and 3/4 tank fuel as required by the test at that time. The actual weights are shown below.

With driver @ approx 70 kg
Front axle 405kg rear axle 403kg

Without driver:
Front axle 383 kg rear axle 353 kg

They then did some calculations and came up with a calculated laden weight figure of 425.58 kg front and 460.42 kg rear

Declared design weight from Ginetta was given as 450 kg front and 450 kg rear. This caused a failure of the test as the rear axle calculated laden weight figure was greater than the declared factory figure.

The work around to get a pass was to sign a declaration that I had entered the wrong design weight figures when initially filling in the form. I increased the design weight figure on the rear axle to 470 kg and it passed

Hope this helps, Tony

you realy need to put the car through IVA, when it was already registered b4 outside UK?

IVA with a kit which wasnt desinged for IVA may be a pain!!

hmmmm....i think my idea comes too late for you...but i would have rather sold it in NZ (i think potential buyers would have paid more than the car is worth in UK) and bought a UK-registerd car in UK.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately I do have to go through the pain of IVA even though the car was registered and used in New Zealand. The only way round this would have been to put it through as a personal import, but this route is only availbale for production cars. At the end of the day, I am caught in the typical bureaucracy problem of there not being a box that VOSA can tick within the system for a non UK registered kit car being imported. The fall-back for them is to simply put it through the whole IVA route and treat it as a new build.

Having discussed the situation with the guys at the testing station (who I have to say have been very helpful) there is a reasonable chance it will get through without too much drama. The only task I know I have to do with it is fit a reversing lamp. We'll see how we go.

One other thing I have to do before I go for the test is prove the age of the engine, which requires some formal indication from Ford. Does anyone have any details on how to get this organised. I contacted Fords main customer centre and they gave me an email address to write to, but to date I have had no reply. My local ford dealer was no help either. Any contact details would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve.

Do a search on Locostbuilders - the contact details will be on there

If going IVA there are more than a few elements that need addressing on a G27

Hi Steve,
When I SVA'd my car there was no requirement for a reversing lamp, only fog lamps. Things have changed quite a bit since then but you may want to consider some of the issues I had, they're detailed here SVA link on my website.

Pay particular attention to anything on the car that may fail the test that can be removed (e.g.) hood catches. Take them off and refit them later. They can only test as seen.

SVA and IVA are very different tests unfortunately.

Every car coming into the country under ten years old will need IVA testing irrespective of whether it's a personal import or for busines. i.e. Used car stock for someone like us.

If it's original registration was more than ten years ago, and it was a standard production vehicle, it wouldn't need IVA testing just an MOT. Not sure how this would work with a self build or if your car is technically under/over ten years old.

Thats not usually good enough - Typically you need a staement from the manufacturer.
