Surrey Research Park
Discussion
My wife works there, 95% of the time the traffic is terrible, especially getting out during the afternoon often queing from 1500hrs onwards and can take an hour to get out sometimes.
The access road becomes congested by the Hospital traffic and many other developments that have been added to the park for some strange reason without an additional access.
Sorry to be negative.

I know that a few companies on the Surrey Research Park have launched appeals concerning the recent Gym /Sportcentre development. In addition some companies are looking to relocate due to the traffic congestion.
I'm a Transport Planning Consultant by trade and cant believe the state of development on the research park, how planning decisions have been determined..........brown envelopes id imagine.;)

It is stupid, but I suppose there isn't really any other way of getting the traffic out other than the way it goes now due to its location tucked up behind the hospital there.I'm a Transport Planning Consultant by trade and cant believe the state of development on the research park, how planning decisions have been determined..........brown envelopes id imagine.;)

The whole area is a shower of ste.
Echo what everyone else has said. I remember a meeting between the tenants and the Research Park management (ie. the Uni), and the best thing they could come up with was to install more lights, and stop the flow more. At that meeting was a traffic consultant, also a tenant, who shot down every dumd idea they had.
They don't want to build a 2nd acces road as it will cost lots of money. The highways agency will not make another junction on the A3 as it is too dangerous as it is in that section, already crowded with junctions. So they just did nothing.
RSCH changed their visiting hours, which helped a little, but it is still rubbish in the peak.
Anyhow, the best way to get there during peak hour is on the A3, as the A320 into Guildford is a nightmare, or the back way to the Hospital via Park Barn as someone else said.

Indeed, Hyder Consulting are on the research park and have been very vocal about the traffic. They don't want to build a 2nd acces road as it will cost lots of money. I guess that was you lot. The meeting was about 2 years ago from memory, but I no longer work there. The car parking situation was a farce in our building. Half the tenants spots where unused, but companies who had lots of staff used up the visitors spaces. So if you had a visitor arrive, then they had no where to park, and the security guards would then give them a nice parking invoice, becuase reception didn't tell them they needed a vistors permit. Gave a great impression!!!

But the traffic is absolute nightmare. It may help with the new hospital car park arrangement but it's still bad
I have visited the Nuffield between 5pm and 6pm on multiple occasions and it was a complete nightmare. Hideous - I would hate to do it daily.
Guildford, and the part of the A3 running from Burpham to Stag Hill is utter hell. Probably because 2 of the 3 exits only take cars joining or leaving the A3 in a single direction only (ie departing the City, Burpham is Northbound only and City Centre is Northbound only and the Wooden Bridge is Southbound only) - so whenever there is an incident the entire City gets completely gridlocked. Well I've been there for a week now and haven't had any of the forecasted problems. I tend to get there just before 8 in the morning and can leave around 4:15 so I'm possibly avoiding the worst of the traffic. The journey to/from takes less than 30 minutes
Edit: it probably helps that I don't have to use the a3.

I've been working there a couple of days a week for the past 9 months. If your in before 8 and out around 4 ish your okay, a bit later and its st. If theres an accident on the roundabout a the bottom, its really really st.
The annoying thing is that all the traffic at that roundabout is for people going straight over to the a3, I just want to turn left.Gassing Station | Thames Valley & Surrey | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
