Some of you may know Im a nurse.
I work in a Children's A&E and 8 members of staff have got together to raise money for our department and for the Shooting Star Hospice.

We're going to do the National 3 peaks 24hour challenge in June this year

Does anyone have any walkie talkie radios we could borrow for the first week of June?

Thanks
Lisa wink

Lisa, I have a pair that you're welcome to borrow but I'll need them back by the 9th June as I'm off to Le Mans on the 10th and will need them there.
Let me know if that's any use.

How many do you need? Is it the 8?

May be able to borrow as many as you need from the Rabbit Run boys (we share offices).

Yep, it's broken.

You probably won't need PMR radios for the three peaks and if I learnt anything when I tried to do it that the people that did best were those that were only carrying the bear minimum safety equipment. Well that and those that realised that walking 20miles is very different to walking 26 miles up and down three mountains.

If you want any advice about the preperation we should have done and didn't let me know...

'hills' don't really do it as I can walk up most of them without passing out even now, it's the walking up at some point steep slopes (where you're lifting your whole legs up - if that makes sense) for 1hr+ that is the killer and then doing it again.

I think my best advice would be go to Snowdon as it's easy in a weekend and in a lovely part of the world, do an easy path on saturday and then try and do another path on sunday before heading home. You'll soon know what you're in for, this should be done ASAP for those that are seriously thinking of doing it.

Helicopter. Ski lift. BANK.

Both the sensible option.

If god had meant us to walk like that, he wouldn't have given us the ability to invest such things.

OP: Always happy to donate if you want to post a link up?

Hi Lisa,

Didn't realise you were a fellow pistonheader!

Hope the fundraising goes well - put up a link for sponsorship. Say hello to all the nurses in A&E for me.

Wow,
Thanks everyone for the offers. biggrin
There are 10 of us doing the challenge, so probably 4 or 5 radios would be plenty!
Sorry to now be typically blonde, but whats a PMR radio? And why would we need or not need these on the peaks?
confused

What we want is something to radio ahead to our drivers/cooks about 20 mins (1/2 mile ish) away so we are ready to leave and we have hot food!
driving

We are just getting our just giving page set up, so I will post a link as soon as I have it, thanks for all your kind offers there too!
wink

Kieran, long time no see! Yes my hubby got me in to PH a couple of years ago, sadly I don't have a car fit for PH purpose, and I haven't been on a drive for ages, but I love it, when I can go!

Hows wife and little one? Where are you working now?

Not actually PMR, more accurately these radios we're all offering conform to PMR446 - more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMR446

Thanks to everyone who has offered radios.
And to everyone prepared to donate, just as soon as we get our just giving page set up... few technical issues!! laugh But I will put up a link.

Pete, can I accept your offer and borrow 5 radios? Think its best if I borrow them all from one person.
We'll be leaving Surrey on Monday 31st May. I know thats May bank holiday, not sure if there are any drives planned that you'll need them for, but if not perhaps I can pick them up from you over the bank holiday weekend?biggrin
