Local custom exhaust places
Discussion
Any recommendations? I'm thinking somewhere like Longlife (but I've heard more good than bad things about them, so perhaps not!). A good indy place would be best.
Reason I'm asking is my exhaust appears to need some proper attention rather than a quick weld. Its started blowing from where the pipe exits the mid-box. I had it welded at Edmunds in Wokingham but the chap said it probably would'nt hold as the pipe had lost its strength and he was right (at least it made it round Scotland and back! ). Its a custom cat-back system. I'm hoping the problem could be solved by partially replacing a section of it. I don't want a whole new exhaust as I have been very happy with it.
It does a have a lifetime warranty from the place I bought it from so I could always take it back there (assuming the warranty covers this kind of wear and tear rather than just corrosion. I'm still to clarify this). Only problem with this plan is the place is in Cardiff! Hence I'm looking into other options

I had my new exhaust done by Longlife in Carshalton, great weld quality, all seems good so far..
Had work done by that guy, too. No problems at all, although a bit grumpy that day.If Carshalton is too far, try Powerflow in Uxbridge; also had work done by them. Again, can't complain.
Longlife' IMHO thats quite ironic. My other half has a cat back system on her 206gti. Had to take it back twice for bad welds which were blowing, yeah it was free to fix, but a pain in the arse. Not only this but they attached the back box bracket to a flimsy bit of metal on the chassis which snapped off. ALSO... the centre bracket off the pipe was out of sink with the one off the car meaning that it will never support teh exhaust properly. I gave up going back to them and fixed it myself, so far so good! (fingers crossed)
I think it all comes down to which gease monkey you get to make the system up.
Edit:
Probably should add that it was the Plymouth branch not any where up here teh system was made up.

Simpson Race Exhausts in Langley are great, although might be a little overkill for just a repair job. Sorted my Holden, and Deans Sagaris iirc. Give Matt a call before turning up as they are in a bit of an odd place to find.

I had bit done to my car down at longlife and the bloke was so f*cking grumpy and almost rude that I just cannot go there again!
Welds were ok but damn the bloke has a face like a storm! Also if you go past there again you may think.. being a past customer you may get a hello or something... hell no. You just get a big blank!

If I'm to be honest, that's the only reason I ended up going to Powerflow in Uxbridge for some other work. They were friendly.Welds were ok but damn the bloke has a face like a storm! I went there to get a quote for the Swift too. Fantastic place and very helpful, but also rather expensive and may not want to repair an exhaust that isn't up to their very high standards.http://www.simpsonraceexhausts.com/page3.html
They would have done the exhaust for the Swift if I could have afforded to leave the car with them for a few days.
8 Years on and Dan at Longlife is still just as miserable as always. I can deal with that as I generally don't like people anyway, but after treating me like some w*nker after I'd spent a lot of money with him before I swore never to use him again and will do everything in my power to dissuade anyone else going there.
