The merc reverse is struggling. I need to nurse it through the next two weeks then I can kill it and claim on the AA warranty. Has anyone use and Auto gearbox repair garages? Have seen there is one in Reading, anyone know of any others??

I would have had that in a second too, had I had the extra cash. I think the rebuilt should'nt be too damaging bill will prob cost me £300 on top of the AA contribution.

Lovely car!

Alex, as Charlie so eloquently put, the transmission does appear to be the weak spot on the older Mercs.

My friends SL500 threw a fit and wouldn't change out of first gear but I think it was more to do with the fact that he bought the car from a dealer who had apparently just fitted a new gearbox but it turns out that they fitted the wrong box...!

I hope you manage to nurse it along without it costing too much money.

Yes think we should, if the gear box matches the serial for my one. I cannot find it now as I sent it from work. Can you put the link up then I can email him and ask about gearbox.

Just realised that, oh well bought a new locking nut for £20 from ebay frown Fixed the broken drivers seatbelt in the tuscan too, so least I dont have to spend £30 on a new one. Bloody cars, who ever invented them!!

Got a night shift tonight to get through, while being tortured on tv with RED NOSE Day, joy..
