I phoned the Highways Agency last night, after twice slowing for average speed cameras and at last trying to find out what it was all about, amazingly quick and full explanation on what the local roadworks are about:

1. The 50mph average speed cameras as you come off the M25 onto the M3 Southbound. It was a 6 month trial now extended to 24 months to see if slowing traffic eased congestion during rush hour. Extended because initial data was 'inconclusive', why then is it still in force outside of rush hour, I guess it would mean changing the cameras, putting displays up or something.

2. The new roadworks between Bagshot/Lightwater jnct and the 1st Farnborough jnct. Drainage upgrading until July 2009 because in heavy downpours that stretch of the motorway often floods.

Feels a bit geeky to do this but it may be useful to some locals..
