Just wondering if anyone has seen the roadworks along here?

Looks like SPECS cameras to me?!

Saw these on my way into Guildford earlier, joined at Milford and first thing I spotted was the dreaded yellow pole!

Seem to start at somewhere between Godalming (B3000) and Hurtmore and stop somewhere south of Milford.

There's signs up saying roadworks for 14 weeks, so I'm praying only temporary! Anyone know any more?

Hmm, i'm hoping only temporary too.. In the 6 months i've gone along there, (twice a day) i've not seen one crash.. So can't imagine they'd be there for that.

Yeah, but the Yellow wire that i'd imagine goes to each to link them starts right up near the hill at the hogs back! frown

Yeah, 14 weeks is abit over the top if their just putting SPECS up!.. Maybe its something to do with the massive traffic that Hindhead tunnel is going to bring to that area of the A3?

I'm hoping some people with more info will be along soon!

It doesn't say that the cameras will be going again afterwards but fingers crossed!

I've lived very close for 15+ years and only seen a few accidents on that stretch - one of which being my sister writing off a near mint Fiesta I'd got her at BCA Blackbushe just days before furious

I live in Guildford but work at the Mazda garage just off the Milford turning, so do that stretch everyday.. The only thing is the Aquaplaning, i've done that quite alot.. You get to know where abouts to expect it so hopefully that'll get sorted!

They better be gone afterwards! furious

If you look at some of the poles holding the cameras they are scratched and scraped - suggesting they get moved around between sites and wont be left after the roadworks have finished!

The Gatso at the north side of the Hindhead Tunnel roadworks has been AWOL for a few weeks also.

Fingers crossed for temp. only!

I was gutted to see them going up, its a good bit of road I dont see the need for them.

I do wonder though if it will ease the flow up hill just after the Milford junction North bound, people pull out of that junction, go straight into the outside lane and sit there, normally with me behind getting very annoyed mad

And as for teh speed camera going south bound at the road works thats def.changed, seems to point at you, with no lines maybe reading No. plates / tax as well?? and its grey which makes it even worse!!

Doubt it, its the modern mentality of 'I have a fast car therefore being in the outside lane is my right'.

I agree though, I'm forever joining northbound at Milford, burying my right foot, pulling straight into the outside lane to clear the traffic I've just followed at painful speed down the sliproad only to have them pull in front and leave me sat there frustrated going nowhere furious

Just an advanced heads up here guys.

The new Hindhead Tunnel will be fitted with the latest Camera Systems
not only for traffic safety and security but SPEC's type average speed systems too. (Bugger thats put the bock on a new SAS Tunner Runners Venue)

Reliable Source (Consultants)

Just after it goes down to single lane heading up the hill Portsmouth bound, its situated just before the huts and sheds for the road workers on the left.

I drove past there just now - it is a Truvelo camera and it doesn't seem to be active yet (no white lines). I wonder where they are going to put the Gatso it is replacing.

The right hand laners, when you've just come on Northbound from Milford are really annoying I agree!

Or, they come down the slip lane at 30mph.. The whole idea of a sliplane is to join at the same pace, or is it just me?

I had one pull out on me today at about 40MPH, just coasted out without signalling. I was doing 70 (ish) and being overtaken by 2 cars so couldn't pull out! TWUN T!

Seeing as it's now a 50 limit with SPECS I wouldn't be doing 70 past that junction!

Is it just me or have they forgotten to put a national limit sign up northbound after you've cleared the cameras and roadworks at Hurtmore?

There is no NSL sign at the end in either direction.

You still find people doing 50 three miles further on.

My Dad and I thought they were Average Speed Cameras, what are they exactly?
Has anybody noticed the Gatso at the actual A3 Tunnel Works heading towards Hindhead? It looks like its got plastic or card over the inside lenses and is facing the opposite way to the road markings...

Exactly that.

Its not a Gatso, its a Truvelo camera. It doesn't use the road markings, there are strips in the road surface itself that it uses to detect the speed of traffic. You can see them, they are like 4 / 5 black marks across the road just infront of the camera.

Aaah, ok, thank you. I take it the advantage of the Truvelo is being able to identify the driver?
