cleaning an alloy sump
Discussion
I need to get a sump cleaned up for an engine I'm installing into my old Jag. It's actually the sump from a scorpion tank, but they used a modified version of the Jaguar XK engine, and the sump happens to fit between the chassis frames of an XK150, unlike the sump from the saloon cars.
The problem I have is that I don't have anything big enough to put it in and soak it in petrol/paraffin safely.
Does anyone know of a company in the Bracknell area who would have the facilities to clean something like this up? Preferably someone with an alloy cleaning tank.
Cheers
Ken

Try some Comma Hyperclean.
Brush it on when sump is dry do not pre wash.
Stand up in an old 25 litre plastic drum with top cut off to catch the residue.
Brush well in and keep going over it.
leave it for a few hours and repeat the brushing with more cleaner.
Even a rub over with some green scotchbrite will help remove the crud.
Then give it a good blasting with a pressure washer or take to garage and use the jet wash.
Wear some protective gloves and eye glasses.
