Warmed up a bit here.
Just been down to the tip with the 4x4 and over to my lockup.
Still an amazing amount of drivers peering through a little clear patch on their windscreen and other numpties who slide out of untreated side roads.
Take care guys.
Arrrggghhh, dont go there. Thats one of my pet hates and the way they have the wipers on at full speed, as if that is going to help. Just been down to the tip with the 4x4 and over to my lockup.

Slippy this morning going up through Whitchurch out of Pangbourne and got sideways action on the TGI roundabout in Reading without even trying.

Just dropped Charlie off after the night out in London, on the way to dropping Ben off in Crowthorne and there's a lot of ice about, had a few moments (even with all the toys ON!) when not going fast or changing speed!!!
Take it easy everyone, it's properly slippery out there...
Listen up people, until then he was known as "StraightLine" Take it easy everyone, it's properly slippery out there...
On may way back from Newbury yesterday the traffic news stated that A3 / M25 Slips were closed by Highways as they had been "Over Gritted" WTF
Coming back along the M3 it was like a dust storm
All that dried up salt.
Felt sorry for those passing in their cars.
32 ton 4 axles and 60mph was giving a good cloud behind

I went through that junction today - the lanes had been cleaned up, but each side of the slip road was a mountain of salt. Maybe one of those first day on the job cases? "hmm, the boss said it is going to get down to -10 tonight, so that must mean I must have to put 10 times as much down as normal....?"
Not 100% on this but I think once the temps down to -8 or less
the salt dosing needs to upped however would be questionable if it prevented ice
forming in the more exposed areas.
Someone may chime in here with the freeze data however I think most of us here realise that extra care required in any low temp conditions.
I see the "I need my Rear Foglight on" brigade where out in force on my way back
from Camberley this evening - useless tossers.
Plus also have noticed quite few cars and vans with defective brake lights.
Either jammed on or not working. I told the driver of a newish Golf he had no brake lights working, he was supprised and said it had just been serviced.
No self check before he used the car then.

I think you're right about the salt being useless below a certain temp.No self check before he used the car then.
The garage probably broke the switch or I'd expect he should get a warning light telling him a bulb is screwed!

A few years back I was visiting a friend in the Czech Republic during Christmas / New Year. We were driving on quite country road in the hills near the Austrian border, which had sand on the road. He said it was done as salt didn't work when it got as cold as it did there, and weakened the ice so it would break up when you drove on it (I am sure that is what he said). They also have to have winter tyres on their cars at this time of the year.Gassing Station | Thames Valley & Surrey | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
