Ok after recently getting rid of the scooby, i am on the lookout for a second car. Really looking to purchase in April. But Some bargains are coming along at the moment such as http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/818507.htm

But i have been looking at a M3 and a S4, but keep going back to the Impreza.

Or

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/820459.htm

The main reason i am going back to the impreza is that i know how they cost to run and what can go wrong! But with the S4 and M3 i am completely in the dark, but would like a V8 N/A for a change over a 2 or 2.5 litre Forced induction.

I have never been out in a M3, but have had a S4 for a week on loan but found it a little erm dull, but quick.

Overall i am looking to spend around 10k in a quick car that will make a good noise. That will upset the neighbours..

You mention quite wanting a V8 but that is only the Audi from those mentioned and you already said you tried one and it was a tad dull. The E46 M3 is a 6, only the latest one has a V8 - Don't think the 6 cyl M3's make an especially great noise and they won't upset the neighbours nearly enough biggrin. What are the usability criteria, you say 2nd car but is it just for you to use or does it need to lug the family and/or general detritus around, for me 2nd cars are all about being impractical luxuries, if it can be that then why not follow the herd ( wink ) and get a nice Chimaera.

For practicality i would need 4 seats and would need to fit in the garage.. A modern narrow one, one that you have to be a skinnly as aa stick to get into and out of when the car is parked in there..

Budget is no more than 11k.

Requirements at least 300Bhp. 0-60 less than 5/6. and good handling.. 2k per year on maintainence!

What about an E39 M5? They're supposed to be fantastic and can be bought for pennies now. They may cost a little to run, but I'm sure it'd be worth it.

You could run an Evo FQ on £2k a year as a second car. I ran one for nearly 2 years and it was blisteringly quick and ran rings around STi's on track.

If you want something comfortable get an M3, but if you want to basically 'own' any B road you drive on then go and test drive an Evo...
