While on my way to get my new car Armourfended yesterday morning and driving like a granny in order to avoid getting stone chips, you guessed it , I got a nice big chip in my windscreen.

I have a couple of questions regarding the resin type repairs :

What are your experiences of these type of repairs ?

The chip/hole is one inch from the top of the screen near where the mirror sits. This part of the screen is black, so does anyone know if the repair can be undertaken with a black resin ?

I live in Surrey so if anyone can recommend an individual to carry out the repair I would be grateful. I'm looking for someone who can appreciate a car nut's pride and joy and takes pride in their work.

Many Thanks.

I had a chip resin repaired by Autoglass in Bracknell IIRC. Chap said to me that anything up to the size of a 5p piece can be resin repaired.

The success of the repair depends on the repairer.

Repairs up to 10mm in the drivers view can be repaired ( general rule of thumb - take the width of the steering wheel which falls within the wiper sweep, this is considered drivers view. Hope that makes sense lol)

Repairs up to 40mm in the passenger view can be repaired.

The colour or the screen is irrelevant as the colour is in the PVB Interlayer of the screen. So clear acrylic resin is used.

Ensure all repairs, resins are to BS Standard.

Ensure whoever carries out the repair removes all traces of moisture within the break. Moisture removal is the key to successful repair. Otherwise the repair will look fine for a while then re-open.

All you should be left with is a 'teardrop' hint that there has been a repair.
Repairs are NOT 100% invisible so beware of any repairer who makes these claims. They are more like 85%.

I had a screen repaired a while back.
Waste of time IMHO as the chip was still visible and got on my nerves.

Two weeks later I put a hammer to it and had a new one fitted.

I gave you a lead to your question in the Lambo section if it helps.
