AnotherWhatCarThread - £10k convertible with good noise
Discussion
Yes, it's that time again. For various different reasons i have decided to sell my bike, and i'm considering replacing it with another Chimaera.
Why another Chim, when i've had two already?
Because they're very nice top down but also useable when it rains - with the roof on and the windows up it's still a nice place to be. That V8 is reasonably economical and reliable and sounds wonderful with a very cheap and simple exhaust mod, the seats are comfy, the parcel shelf is useful, the boot is enormous, and they're cheap (less than £10k for a very nice one).
With that in mind, can anyone think of any alternatives? Has to sound good (no four pots), handle reasonably well, be comfy top up or down, and reliable - for less than £10k.
Only other thing that leaps out at me is a mid 90's Merc SL500.
Come on, i know you lot love a "what car?" thread

A friend of mine has a 91 SL500 and he has had horrendous problems with the gearbox which can be a common problem by all accounts.
They're also quite heavy and although they arean't slow, I should imagine a Chim would see one off without too many problems.
That said, the build quality is spot on and the interior is a lovely place to be in.

Oh, hadn't thought of that... good call!My Aunt has one of these but not sure how it handles or whether it would be any good at attacking B roads..

Oi! Join the queue... BTW, that cheap 500 on eBay was sold this morning for £4.5k - although it was apparently f*cked though and needed a lot of cosmetic and mechanical work... In fact the only bits that sounded ok were the engine and gearbox!
(and thanks for the ideas/links so far - keep 'em coming!)
E36 M3? Would rather have a Chim.
E46 M3? Don't like them, and stretching the budget.
350z soft top for £10k?
S2000 goes reasonably well between 7500 and 9000 rpm but doesn't make a great noise IMHO.
XK8 is a bit too dull.
B3 3.3 is nice but over budget and not that much fun to drive, great cruiser though.
135i cab would be ideal as a 130 replacement but i prefer the 130 engine for noise and chassis for fun.
Tuscan S for £9k? What's the catch?
So far it's Chim or Z3M i reckon.
Keep 'em coming though, i never would have thought of half of this stuff...

Surely you wouldn't want two cars with the same engine! Remember last night you were saying you're not one to have two of the same.VerySideways said:
That Boxster is way out of budget, i've never been a fan of non-coupé 964's, but the Z4 looks quite nice. Still slightly out of budget but i suspect there are a few under £10k.
There's a few boxsters around the £10k mark: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/804054.htmGassing Station | Thames Valley & Surrey | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
