Have just been offered a W plate S6 estate with 136k on it for £3.5k.....Is it a walk away job or should I have a better look at it. Full Audi history, leather/nav blah blah.
After Bens/JRs/Robs fun with their Audis I am pretty sceptical about all things 'Ingolstadt' so whadya reckon?

Oh and I think so long as the auto box is behaving, no shunt from the diffs, the suspension is in good order and the engine is strong I think it's a bloody good price.

If the trip computer pixels have died that unit cost about £500 to replace but you can actually get these fixed for about £50 so it's a pretty good bargaining angle if it's broke.

If it's got FSH then the n/a 4.2 is fairly bullet proof...

Is it standard, i.e. original wheels, etc?

Assuming FSH and standard then that's cheap and a rather splendid tow car!

Probably worth joining the AA though... hehe

I got a brand new still boxed centre unit from eBay - £48 I think...

Would this be from a former audi mechanic that has a garage loaded with expensive Audi parts that may or may not have fallen into his pockets? hehe

Unfortunately he only seems to stock newer audi items.

Its got FASH, the wheels aren't original, only seen the outside as it was penned in at my friends garage, think I'll wait till after Friday to see whats at BCA then take it for a play over the weekend.

What that man said, I'll help you poke / play / look.

I mean come on my car hadn't been too bad...

1 new block, pistons and head.
1 new turbo
1 new steering rack
3 sets of ARBs
2 Sets of dampers
2 MAF sensors
2 balls joints
10 Bushes
2 wishbones
1 Lambda sensor
2 clutches
1 flywheel
4 coil packs
8 track rods / ends
and a partridge in a pear tree!

Seems reliable for it's 130,000miles. bandit

Although everyone thinks mine is hascaused me alot of trouble...it hasn't really!

-I change the oil every 5,000 miles.
-Many many tyres
-I've replaced plugs a couple of times and changed to a set of manicor leads.
-In the process of getting rid of a K&N air filter so have had to buy an RS2 Airbox and all the other intake accessories along with a MAF that fits the box
-Brake pads and discs
-About to get Servo replaced and engine mounts replaced

Things that have gone wrong:

-Diverter Valve
-Waste Gate Frequency Valve
-Brake Servo is weeping slightly
-Rear Diff Mount
-Random Washer Wiring fault...hehe
-Melted fusebox

Not all bad for a 17 year old eh? wink

I reckon a call to Doug at MRC would be useful too - he'll tell you what to look for and give it a health check for a few quid if you can run it up to them. When I was there last a guy came in for a health check on an S4 Avant that he'd just purchased - he was raving on about how good it was, but then Doug found it was running in 'safe mode' (or something?) and they then found a broken wire on some sensor widget in the depths of the engine bay! Fixed in 15 mins and then bloke took it out again and couldn't believe the difference! hehe

Couple more thoughts from me - at 136k it could still be on the original dampers/shocks so they'll need a good poke, especially if going to be used for towing. A set of decent tyres will be £500-£700'ish if they're shot. Has it got an MOT, i.e. emissions/CC/maf may be an issue on something with the miles on?

If the engine and CC/maf is sound then most other things are relatively cheap'ish though? Even if needs new pads/discs/shocks/tyres fitted by an independant, then should still be a bargain!
