That Merc will last another 20 years, the 735i will be fun, the Lexus would be a truly great luxo barge.
I love these threads. I'll start looking :-)

That first one John, a black Golf GTI 8 valve, that's a bulletproof motor which is still kinda fun. Good work.
Rover? Bargepole?

Helped a mate of mine find a daily snotter (£500 budget) and we found a 50k miles Rover 416SLi for £495. Apart from changing the cambelt just in case, it's cost him nothing so far... As long as they have one of the Honda engines then should be very reliable?

The rovers with the Honda engines arean't bad by all accounts. An old friend of mine was an RAC mechanic so he had a pretty good idea of what was reliable or not and he has had 3 rovers with the honda lump and has no intention of buying any other cars as runarounds.

That Audi coupe looks ok but I reckon you could get a 2.3 20v for that sort of money. They are absolutely bomb proof though and I've been waiting for my 2.0 8v to die but it still going pretty strong at 170,000 miles.

The Merc is a classic and look to be in great condition, plus you should be able to sell it to an enthusiast when your finished for no loss.

I'd go for the Merc!
