Ok As some of you know I need a sub 170Co2 G/km car now that only has to be in standard form,

As its destined to be joined by some thing more exotic the limits are as follows.

4 Door
Diesel
The budget is limited to 4-6k (Cash purchase)
mileage say under 100k
Front or rear wheel drive itll be smoking any way!
Capable of coping
Motorway able
Resonable badge (im a snob)
Less than 7 years old
Important bits-
what can I get in performace for an aditional £500-1k
Must be hoonable at the best possible level

So far I have for 5-6k

Leon/Golf 1.9PD 150 FR 54-55reg - Remap takes i to 185-190bhp and about 290torqs
Mondeo 2.2 155bhp 54-55reg - Remap takes it to 180+ bhp and fook loads of torq's

Roll up rollup what do ya recomed!

I reckon if the S3 goes quick enough
I can Buy, Remap, fit 18's, Sports Exhast inc a cat bypass, Air Filter, poss lower 35mm a E46 for £6k all in. Hoon tastic at 35mpg and drift ahoy!

Would like a Leather interior though.

As Ben said last night not bad for a Sensible Daily snotter!

Still like the Leon as the closest alternative

Ok John bring on the magic, what can you find!

A lot fall foul of the 170g/Km for cars older than 2 years...

I reckon from this lot:

  • Best chuckable would be the Leon Cupra?
  • Best comfortable and snoozy would be the BMW?
  • Best all-rounder has to be the Mondeo ST surely?
2003 AUDI A4 1.9 TDI 130 QUATTRO SE 5DR
167g/Km
Remap to 165’ish without mods?
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/AUDI...

2005 FORD MONDEO 2.2TDCi 155 ST 5dr
161g/Km
Remap to 190’ish without mods?
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/FORD...

2004 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 2.0 GT TDI 5dr
149g/Km
Remap to 175’ish without mods?
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/VOLK...

2004 SEAT LEON 1.9 TDi 150 Cupra 5dr
146g/Km
Remap to 185’ish without mods?
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/SEAT...

2003 BMW 3 SERIES 320d 4dr Diesel Saloon
153g/Km
Remap to 185’ish without mods?
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/BMW+...

Ignored options...

Saab, Mercs (snooze!), Volvo, smaller Fords, Vauxhall (all horrid rep mobiles under 170g/Km) and French. hehe

And why is it you're looking at getting rid of your 156 exactly?

The question is, why have had I had it so long when I usually get bored of cars much quicker than this (5 series lasted a lot less, as did a Scooby wagon)? I have really enjoyed owning it and it has done the family schlep and abuse very well. I'm only really getting rid cos I am bored and it's a wee bit leggy now biggrin

I assume the 170 Co2 is rigid, otherwise at 175 Co2's you could have a 2.4 Alfa which gets really interesting, one above is a 1.9 I think (checked on dvla thingy as not mentioned in ad).

This 1.9's a better buy than the one I linked to originally, that was just more a concept biggrin
This one's in budget and has leather.

Not wanting to change you're quote, but I think that's the important bit, going sideways in a 320d has to be more fun hehe

We all get bored of ours cars after a while, it's how long they take to bore us that matters. RWD or not, my 5 series bored me quicker than my 156 cos it didn't have a big enough engine to make use of it. Bigger power does make more of a difference and of course with more power the balance shifts MASSIVELY towards RWD cars with them getting far more fun, whilst FWD cars getting far worse at an opposing rate. However as we are talking about circa 2l Diesels I really don't see the advantage of one over the other.

Another suggestion, down on power compared to the others but it cuts quite a dash

I can't talk anyway, I've done over 105,000 miles in my car now and had it a very long time and I still enjoy driving it when it works!
