Anyone know of a good place where i can get a cambelt change and MOT done on my Clio around the Guildford area? Not overly fussed on it being a Renault dealer, just not that expense would be great biggrin

Try and find a local Mr Clutch - they do an MOT for 34.95 and the labour rates are generally a lot lower than most. Great for basic stuff like oil and belts.

Cheers Hannah, I am having brain fade tonight, and was imagining Mr Clutch was one of the mobile units I have seen driving around. Looks like I'm driving the old bus to work in Maidenhead (via Mr Clutch) next week instead of the Monaro.

Now that I think about it, how would a mobile mechanic get on pulling gearboxes in peoples driveways! rolleyes

Just to be pedantic...cos I'm a woman! hehe

Mobile mechanics can do gearboxes in situ but it is a bit awkward. Requires an engine hoist and some elbow grease but can be done. Same as doing it DIY on your drive.

I have done it myself years ago on a few different rally cars, but the idea of it now just brings thoughts of a flatbed truck taking it away to fix it under a hoist biggrin

I've used Mr Clutch in Maidenhead for MOT's and they are ok, well actually thinking about it I got a page of faults with my landy, went away and got them all fixed, ran another test and got a page of new faults, I did question why these were not on the original list as they were all things that hadn't suddenly arisen in the 7 day period between the two - they couldn't really answer but so I said I wasn't paying for a third time, cos if they had picked it all up on the first one I could have had the whole lot sorted in a oner.. decent enough people though and agreed to that thumbup

Fraser, its not far from me, if you are dropping a car up there and want dropping into town (it was Three I think wasn't it?) after then let me know, if I am around and about more than happy to oblige thumbup

Thanks TC. I called them, and I am going to book it in for one day next week (when I know it's not being used. If you are free a ride would be great, otherwise a local taxi number would be handy if you know one.

Yesterday smile, although they were quick so I waited in the reception while it was done. Many thanks for the offer though.

Service was good value at £80, and I would recommend them.
Only one thing seemed expensive... I unclipped the single window wiper blade (3 second job), and took it inside asking if they had one in stock. The guy said yes and he would get them to clip it back on for me - Except they charged £10 for the blade... and £6 for fitting!!!
