...for the boring postsleeptumbleweed

I may be starting a new contract in Wokingham, I would rather have a tooth pulled than catching a train from West Byfleet to Wokingham, so it looks like driving it is. My question: What would be the 'best' commute route - google is telling me to do the usual suspects - M25, M3, A322eek can someone suggest a better route that will avoid any hotspotsmad?!

I'd say backroads to windsor(ish) then great park, then around ascot towards crowthorne then done, maybe slightly longer but more consistent and less boring.

I used to do the A322 / M3 every morning and I'm not sure I'd do it again now.

I take it you'll be joing us for a local beer at some point? hehe

Yes re beer - looking at other threads you guys are beer monsters and I think even I may be out of my depth - can anyone put up some serious competition against BMW Nigel - he seems to be the instigator or if not that last man standing (or both)!? :-)

Regarding route i'll check it out - been down here for 6 months but still dont know the area that well - I know some of the Sunday runs better than the area in question!

Perhaps they will leave you a trail of empty beer mugs to follow.......

West Byfleet to Wokingham - Hmmm depends what time of day your traveling.

I would go towards six crossroads to Chobham.
Then take Bagshot Road to A322
Over M3 and follow to Bracknell.
You have a choice of back roads via Nine Mile Ride or the 329M towards
Reading.

As I say depends on your travel time and exact destination.

Check out the sat nav - shortest route & avoiding motorways.
Try the combinations and see what it comes up with.

If you need a tooth pulled I can help with that.
Only pliers though I'm afraid buddy.

Cheers. Bagshot Road to A322 is a bit of a mare between 7-9isham innit?! A few time I have been caught out in that queue!

Yeah I suppose it is.
I am normally on site by then well away from Surrey.

It's also a PITA trying to get across the M3 from the Lightwater Bypass as there are no lights or an M3 slip road. WTF is up with the highways design team as they have spent a freaking fortune there in the last few years - for what. ?????

Anyway back on this route.

Slip out of WB via New Haw to Ottershaw.
Then head for Virginia Water and across to Ascot via Blacknest.
Then on to Wokingham via more backroads
Loads of short cuts to be had there.

Another good cut through is via Windsor Road, Chobham then out to Bagshot via Windlesham to join A322 or continue to Sunnindale then Ascot.

Try several routes to break up a mundane trip every day.

I must confess to pissing a few peeps off when traffic is heavy and wanna get back to my yard in Camberley.
Some of those back roads area bit narrow for a 30 ton eight legger.

Tell you what get hold of a thing called a MAP. very usefull for sorting
out back routes and short cuts.
I used to have loads of street maps in the truck cab and my works pickup
Then came along the Sat Nav....

Thing was no one ever put your window out to steal your A-Z

To avoid traffic, and do a few of my old haunts

Go WOKING, then St johns[or my favourite tunnel route down Blackhorse road] by the canal,Brookwood crossroads, then down the backs[via 2 more tunnels]to Frimley green, through mychett to the Blackwater Valley Relief road, culminating on getting onto the m3 to fleet.then to either Yateley and through or to blackbushe, then the back roads to Arborfield, and wokingham.

With this route traffic is mostly going the other way and the only problem will be getting to the M3
Plenty of different variations on this route and rat runs to avoid traffic.

I did Yateley to Byfleet for 10 years, the opposite way to you, and a few years of Yateley to Wokingham.
