The family Kinky went to CostCo in Reading today ... and it was the busiest we've ever seen it. So much so we had to park around the back (never ever had to before).

Needless to say the queues were the longest I've ever seen them too.

Then we come out and the AA are there, offering free winter checks. So they gave the kinkmobile a going over and a full bill of health. They were also signing up new members - and I asked how that was going .... their response was 'very well - much better than expected'.

We then get to Slough and the estate where

Then on the way home we decided to pop into MaccyDs .... as it was about 2:30ish. We parked in the car park with Next, B&Q, etc, etc .... And it was packed. Never seen it that packed!

Considering the time, we figured that MaccyDs would be half-empty. How wrong we were. It was as full as it would be at lunchtime.

Then spent ages getting out of the car park (as usual).

Who says there's a credit crunch, and that everyone is tightening their financial belts?

I went to B+Q MaccD's Slough as well at about 16.00 waited for what felt like a lifetime to get in. After all that they were out of stock for what we wanted.

I do. People that usually dine in nice restaurants are perhaps now eating at Maccy D's. And the people that usually spend hundreds in Mark's or Waitrose for their weekly shop, are now stocking up on bulk (and cheaper) products.

Costco? Good job!

I went there today too, and it was very busy.

It may be early Christmas shopping? Costco have their Christmas stock in already.

I went in to get my new glasses fitted to my face (even though I didn't buy them there, how cool is that?)

Nick,

In the main I think I would disagree.

Lets say Mrs. K and I go out for lunch on a saturday, and spend £50. To tighten our belts, I'd not go for lunch at all. Or maybe once a month.

Or eat at home, and get some nice tucker from Waitrose.

I will agree that what you say does apply for sure - but I believe not as widespread as that.

JR - that could well be the case yes.

I'd not considered that at all.

And could we assume that more people than expected were signing up for AA membership, as it's cheaper than servicing your car? This way you gamble .... if it breaks down, the AA take it to a garage to be fixed - with little/no convenience to yourself. But chances are you'd get 2 maybe 3 years before an oil service, etc, etc?

I've been trying my hardest to bankrupt myself and put money into the economy of late, including buying expensive items at costco hehe

I shall be doing my bit in Europe next week too, just to ensure they're not feeling left out!

Cheeky fecensoreder :hehe;

Bragging rights on CostCo and Maccy Ds rofl

We spent less than £200 - which is about 40% of what we normally spend there .... but not intentionally .... we either had all we wanted, or they had nothing there we fancied.

K

P.S. - Yeah - worst "I've got everything" thread hehe

Does a Costco hot dog count as a meal? They are £1.50

Was the Marks and Sparks opposite Maccy D's in Slough equally as busy?

To be fair, B&Q in Slough is always busy...we lived in Slough for about 5 years (left 7 yrs ago - but still have to travel there regularly).

Why do people go to B&Q anyway? It's probbably the most overpriced shop I know.

I hear wht you're saying. However you only have to look at the high street sales figures, and it is affecting almost everyone, with exception of someone's other post re record sales!!
If it's not bad enoug now, wait til the newspapers have the headlines detailing "RECESSION", then most will lock themselves away till the spring!
Cars and bikes. I've been looking at both. Nothing is selling.

That's more likely caused by the high inflation we have which is totally different to any crunching of credit. Those of us that don't do or need credit are unaffected by all this apart from the way our salary doesn't go as far each week.
