Will be flying out of Heathrow later this month, best way for me to get there is the RailAir link from the station but it's an early flight, will need to be in Reading about 7am so it's going to be better to drive than train.

Thinking of parking in Garrard Street NCP right opposite the station, looks like they do a deal £28 a week.

I don't know Reading that well but don't remember the area around the station being particularly rough. Is Garrard Street NCP a safe place to leave a car for the week (ordinary modern Volvo) ?

Thanks

I assume you've checked how much the station car park is? I'd have no qualms leaving my car there for a week (park there everyday for work, £134 per month with rail season ticket).

No real experience of the NCP I'm afraid.

ETA - Possible alternative to parking in Reading is leaving the car at one of those places nearer the airport where you drop the car and then are taken via minibus to the airport. I've used one called Purple Parking IIRC in the past. Very secure. Can't remember the cost though!

Or leave it at mine in Old Windsor and I'll get someone to run you to LHR for cost!

yes

Or; public car park for a week where security is a retired fat bloke with English as a third language who is locked in a room with no windows and a TV. The room is locked so that he remains safe obviously...

Have you considered getting the train to Reading? The buses leave from the rail station.

Yes, looked at train which would normally be a good option but a return from Worcester is over £100 and the first train (that gets to Reading by 7) has a very bad record for reliabilty.

Plan B is to go to one of the Heathrow on site carparks but it would have to be self parking - I'm not comfortable with the ones that take your keys and potentially hoon around the industrial estates of Hounslow. Would cost about £40 more than the bus link to park at the airport.

Coming from the West along the M4 how long should I allow to get from Reading to Heathrow on a Thursday morning ? I need to be at Heathrow by 8am. I don't remember there being a bus lane west of Heathrow, the RailAir bus says 70 minutes at that time of day (50 minutes in the middle of the night).

The M4 gets very busy the closer you get to London and by 8am it's either congested and moving or at a standstill, mind you that is when I drive over the M4 by Heston services so I think you should atleast allow for 40/50 minutes at that time to be honest.

Oh and you would have no issues with bus lanes and don't leave your car in Hounslow!!

It's also worth looking on BAA.com - if you book long term parking in advance through BAA it's a lot cheaper; even business parking is about half price.

To guarantee an arrival at Heathrow by 8am you'll need to be passing Reading on the M4 by 06:30... That will get you there before 8am, but much later passing Reading and it will be way after 8am!

I do Hereford'ish to Reading/London a lot and your best bet is A419 from the M5 down to Swindon and then straight into Heathrow on the M4. If you do the M40 all the way, then the last 5 miles on the M25 is likely to take you around 45 mins at that time of day!

I'll top it all, you can park outside my flat next to my porsche for the week, no charge and it's off street in private area. I will keep an eye on it for you too. I am in Twyford and 2 mins walk from the station, so £3.00 will get you along one stop to Reading and you can get your rail link into Heathrow. PM me your telephone number and I will give you a call.

Buy me a beer when your back and we'll call it quits!

Twyford is Junc 8/9 of M4 and then a quick dash along the A4 towards Reading. In case your not certain of location.
