A mate of mine has just bougth a flat and doesn't need a car to get to work any more, and he's just sent me this in an e-mail:

"Okay… since I don’t really drive much anymore because of where I’m living, fuel consumption doesn’t really concern me.
What can I get with a serious engine for less than 2K? Not concerned about reliability or mileage, just want something that’s fun when I do."

Any suggestions? And no, i'm not including silver Alfas in this conversation biggrin

well its not so much a serious engine but wicked handaling will help.
106 Gti
205 Gti Mi16
Clio 172

All three are a right hoot to drive and can be picked up for around that price.

If its engine more than handling, how about big engined XJS, or might get a cheap Tivver (wedge or an S) for that.

If it was me and running costs werent an issue then these two would be what I'd go for, so much car for so little money.

The SEC is lovely, the XJS is quite nice, but my favourite so far is the 325i Sport. lick

I used to hate E30s with a passion but they have really grown on me in the past few years.

That one looks lovely!

With a proper set of wheels and a bit of de-pimping that would actually be not too bad. Cheap at that price too.

If you do go to BCA don't forget to allow for buyer's commission, V5 transfer fee.

I'm lovin that 4 litre 5 series - mindblowing value for money. Prolly not the best 'fun' car though. For fun it would have to be a 172.

It's gotta be something Jap, preferably turbo'ed, Shirley?

I've seen MR2 turbos/Supra turbos, GTI-Rs, 300ZX, etc for less than 2 bags of sand. All probably only a few miles away from total and catastrophic engine failure. Still they'd be fun, in a masochistic way smokin
