Just a friendly warning to all of you in the Thames Valley, I have been for a few drives over the last couple of days and seen a huge increase of Speed vans around the Twyford, Reading and Maidenhead areas. I am not sure whether it is a specific clampdown but the A4 between Maidenhead and Twyford is being watched, the back road from Wokingham to Twyford past the Elephant and Castle pub has had a speed Van there on two of the days, plus there seemed to be a lot of unmarked police cars driving around currently seeming not to be in any hurry but certainly keeping an eye on any spirited drivers!
I am not sure whether they have now given up on catching knife crime and any other crime that puts them at risk and are now concentrating on revenue generating crimes or what, but surely there must be better things for them to be doing as literally I saw 5 unmarked cars all in different locations within 10 miles of each other within 3hrs!!

This isn't their fault I am certain of that, no doubt the government we have is trying to recoup the tax shortfall by telling them to arrest less criminals so putting less pressure on the prison service whilst at the same time catching more people to fine so they can make some dosh. I feel sorry for the cops on the ground sometimes as i expect they didn't join the force to do this either.

speeding is a crime. I wish they would come and sit down my road. People think they are qualifying for the Monaco G.P round by me. and I cant stand it.

Blimey, the wind turbines and now this. Not In My Back Yard eh?

How about suggesting more traffic police who are able to educate rather than seek to encourage these mobile piggy banks that serve largely to alienate the majority of motorists?

Monaco Grnad Prix indeed!

As I posted a week ago, there's loads around Surrey as it's a new campaign they're doing for the Christmas party to lower accident and death rates in the area. You'll see those Amy posters on the back of buses "Could you tell Amy her parents have died in a road accident?" rolleyes

Agreed. There is a family that live in Juniper way in Tilehurst that own a black corsa 1.2 with big alloys and puke green fiesta Zetec with checkered roof. Not quick cars, so why do they feel the need to always wheel spin and speed off down a road only to brake really hard as the junction is about 20 yards away........

The unmarked cars aren't in the area to deal with 'spirited' driving, i can promise you that - its more likely to be a crime initiative to crack down on daytime dwelling burglaries or something similar. They won't give two hoots if you drift over the speed limit.

The van of course is there for revenue generation........ Are you sure that it wasn't ANPR?

I think this has been going on for a few months now, there has been quite a lot more activity with vans, based on what I've heard & seen.

PS : thanks to whoever it was that flashed me a couple of weeks back as I approached one of the "safety" vans haunts....

It wouldn't catch the mopeds that race behind our house, I don't think they are capable of 30mph.

Seems to have tailed off recently mind. Perhaps some of the perps have grown up that extra year and are now in the garage weighting down Saxos with extra fake exhaust pipes and sub-woofers. If it keeps them busy and off the road then that is good smile

through hurst?

Thats interesting, i hadn't seen a police car in hurst in all the 21 years ive lived there, until about a month ago when two of them in a people carrier followed me into a friends house, right onto the drive, and told me not to accelerate as fast out of a junction! (sanford lane for those who know it)

I felt like asking them what on earth they were wasting their time in hurst for, all they ever used to send was a lady on a police push bike to the village shop every saturday to get some gossip from the locals

They were out in Waltham St Lawrence/Hare Hatch this morning, hopefully the back of my car is so dirty they didn't see the plate, was imitating Sebastian Loeb through the lanes, but the ABS works fine biggrin

A31 Hog's Back both ways there's been vans hidden between the A3 and B3100 and then between the B3100 and A331 during recent weeks.

There seem to be more traffic cars patrolling the M3 at the moment too - even more reason to use the various interesting little B roads which run to the south of the motorway between J5 down towards Alresford/Winchester.
