I've just been looking at the M4 J11 "improvements" plan and have a question:

If I'm travelling north on the A33 towards J11 how on earth can I get onto the M4 eastbound??!?!?!?

What a complete mess!

It already takes 20mins+ to get round the existing roundabout during rush hour and these "improvements" suggest I'll have to go through 5 sets of lights with various random priorities for buses and many, many lane changes.

Looks like I'll be finding another route home...

Looks like you'll have to go round that small lake to the north of the old roundabout.

I noticed they managed to get their obligatory bus lane right into it. Not down the side, or straight through the middle, but it winds all over the place making sure nobody escapes it!

What a load of bks that is, I think if they really wanted to sort it out they'd need to make it like a motorway to motorway junction and keep the A33 on a flyover and just have sliproads between each of them some how.

I know I'm not the brightest, but can someone explain to me how I'm supposed to negotiate the revised A33/M4 junction from the south and turn right to take the M4 London bound? From the way I'm reading the map it doesn't look possible confused

Go basically as far as the worldcom roundabout where you now turn left to head past the old HP office and down to Gilette and then come back it looks like to me!

Looks like a right cock-up to me and yet another scheme designed to make life even more difficult for private drivers! I'm sure these things are dreamed up in primary schools with doodle pads hehe

Well no I reckon it's basically just down the hill from where it is now (not as far as gilette etc. just down to that road turning if that makes sense), but it's still a st design.

If you look in the Oxford English Dictionary 2008 edition under "Mess" you'll see a picture of the new junction 11 layout, and under "Idiocy" you'll see a photo of the Reading Borough Council Traffic Planners.

Grrrr.....
