I'm looking to get some simple exhaust welding work done on a Monaro, but am struggling to find someone local to Ascot/ Slough/ Windsor/ etc who knows how to use a Mig welder.

It seems that the various exhaust workshops I have visited in Berkshire so far are filled with spotty kids who have spent way too long in the hairdressers, drive 1 litre corsas covered in fibreglass crap, they can't dress themselves or speak properly, and they wouldn't know what to do with a welder even if someone offered their workshop one for free. Unless an exhaust needed unbolted, then an exact replacement one bolted in, they haven't got a bloody clue!
Either this, or places just don't do custom work because generally it involves dealing with spotty corsa kids and its not good for their business! madbanghead

(Yes, I'm aware all of the above is a mass generalisation, and only based on a small sample of 3 shops... but represents my current level of frustration)

It is no wonder when I tried to call the only motorsport based exhaust company that I know of anywhere near me (Simpsons in Slough), they were fully booked until October.

I want to get the 2 centre mufflers removed and 2 x 12" sections of 2 1/4 inch straight pipe welded in their place. Photos of another car with exactly this done are here...

I'm really hoping someone local might be able to reccommend somewhere to get a quote for the work????

Cheers

Give these guys a call, speak to Tony he might be able to offer some advice. He welded my mates MX5 exhaust without issue.

They are based in Hurst near Wokingham if it helps

I actually used Mike Edwards motorsport who share premises with Rodz and Sodz.

Excellent work, really impressed at a good price.

Highly recommended.

I used Simpson to fabricate an exhaust for my kit car.

The work was excellent and quick, but they did charge a little more than they thought it would be.

Mind you, they talked me out of having a twin exit because thye said it would be a lot of money for very little gain, so I guess they can be trusted.

Had the work done on my car finally... at a recommended place in Farnborough (North American Motor Company). They were really helpful and really knew their stuff about big v8's and kit cars. There was a great looking Cobra on the ramps, and a V8 drag cortina that looked standard from the outside!

Thread and photos here of the work.

Cheers to all for the help here anyway!
