I doubt it very much indeed, though someone from here might have had their car nicked.

No mention of it being stolen but a possibility, or pissed and trying to get away.

It was a guy called Chris_VX220 off of the VX220 forum.

He was with his girlfriend at the time and the car definatly wasn't stolen. I guess we can only speculate for the moment but it's easy to assume that he was driving fast and being followed (perhaps he was un aware of the police car if it was persuing him with no blues and twos on?) by the police but maybe he just lost it whilst being abit enthusiastic?

It's a great shame and a waste of a young life.

James beat me to it..

What a terrible tragedy. The road surface on that particular stretch is pretty terrible though, with a strange off-camber ripple that can send you wandering...

It is three cars wide and pretty straight though...

A terrible shame that someone's lost their life.

Sorry to hear that, RIP "Chris"! My good wishes to all his friends and family!

On a lighter note it could have been Riff-Raff or Magenta coming back to see if the world had changed for the better?

(You have to know Rocky Horror Picture Show for that reference.)

No doubt this will increase calls by the locals to have 30 mph speed limit imposed on that road. I guess only the police who were following will know why the chap apparently lost control on a relatively straight bit of road... frown

It wasnt his girlfriend it was his brothers girlfriend. There is a big running thread on the SELOC forum but it seems it was an accident and the police were not pursuing, they had just pulled out to follow and the crash happened seconds later. Seemingly he was going quickly and it just went a bit wrong.

Very sad.

That's a different story to what the police news said, that road has had a few accidents over the years, RIP to the guy and hope the girl will recover.

Both the police and the media have a habit of sexing stories up somewhat.

Basically he was driving down the A308 at a bit of speed when police pulled out behind him from the BP petrol station. He over took a car and then clipped a car and hit the curb sending him into a spin. He then hit an oncoming car. Both clams flew off the car and it caught fire.

Simply sounds like a tragic accident, no ones "fault". From what you said one assumes the Police had followed him for a couple of miles bacuase that's how far it is from the BP to Oakley Court. frown
