Ok yes the "best" diesel is a 535d, but they are silly money with options (I have driven alot of diesels in old job as a fleet manager) But nothing ever came close to "bang for buck" with a Fabia vRS It is a "wolf in sheep`s clothing"
Blues was impressed how well I kepted up with them on a hoon (it was the Classic car http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... could take you for a spin an you could return the favour in your VXR300
but I think it would be wicked if you opted for the vRS SE as it will go very well parked next to your VXR300

Diz, my old man has a vRS SE, and I concur as above, it is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
He has done some long trips in it and returned over 60mpg, but it is no slouch too.
There is plenty of comment about the tunability of the VAG 1.9 TDi too.
Likewise, if you want a spin, the offer is there. He might be looking at selling it too, but at depends on your budget as it is only a year old with 5K on the clock.

briskoda maybe worthwhile a looksee, the fabia vrs has the pd130 engine iirc which remaps well and can produce some good results!!! and the annoying thing is that tuning a diesel means when your not nailing it everywhere youll get good economy again, and the SE VRS is a nice motor.
otherwise look at seat leon FR's as they can have the 130 or 150 iirc and are very nice also.

We've (well, the missus really..) got the Polo GT - same car but more rare, more expensive, less accomplished handling (she wouldn't listen!! ) and can confirm it pulls like a train with 45+ mpg even when I'm driving (55+ when she is..)
The Polo is good, but I'd have had the vRS personally..
