Have you tried homeless/refuge places, they often want furniture and will come and collect. Check out some of the charity shops too.

Your local authority may collect it at a small charge.

I was going to suggest smashing it up into little pieces and chucking into the back of the Astra (fold back seats down of coursewink)

Try the salvation Army they normally have a van that collects large items for there half way house schemes.
