Anyone on here play golf?
If so, are you any good and what courses do you play at?

Is the course good?
I've decided to take up golf and wondering how hard it is to learn?

I was a beginner you can hire the clubs there. Also they have a par3 course to which you can wear jeans and trainers not the fancy check tweed trousers for 9 holes.

The course is very up and down
check out the website www.wycombeheightsgc.co.uk

Awesome smile
I have booked a lesson tomorrow at my local course.
Then I guess I'll see how I go from there.

Hopefully if I get any good we could get a PH round of golf biggrin

Hmmmm...

I've tried playing golf on a course twice before and both times I was next to useless. Put me on a driving range and I can slug a ball as far as the eye can see but my accuracy leaves alot to be desired. hehe

Last time I went to a driving range at Foxhills I managed to kill a squirrel..

I think it's time I had a few lessons. smile

I took up Golf 18 months ago. Best advice I can give you is get lessons. It's spectacularly unintuitive. When you are starting out, and are consequently useless, you need a nice friendly course that is

  • short
  • doesn't have lots of hazards
Without this it is easy to become discouraged quite quickly as on the "real thing" each mistrike is punished - whereas on an an easy nine-hole par 3 you getway with it.

For a course for the beginner I can recommend the Basingstoke Golf Centre. Unlike some nine-hole par 3 courses that are attached to a larger club with an 18 hole full-size course the BGC has only the one little course. Which means they keep it in tip-top condition. Some of the pitch and putt places attached to larger courses I have been on are clearly an afterthought and are little more than some badly kept greens in the middle of a mown field. The BGC is better than that.

After 18 months and a LOT of lessons and practice, including being a member of a super "half-size" club (holes up to 200 yards) I am on the cusp of being able to enjoy myself on a full-size course.

Teaching old dogs (43) new tricks is hard. yes

EFA!

I have tried to get a group together for a game. I have only been playing 18 months, and have played several of the pay n play courses around Woking with work, and have just jointed up at Billingbear, which is a great pay and play, with a long course and a challenging par 3 9 holes.

Anyone want a game sometime, I can do most weekends, but after work is a little tough to arrange right now.

Emma, fancy arranging Wycombe Heights some time? I play at a sister site near Woking that is great, with an 18 hole Par 3, a longer 9 hole course, and a full 18 if you are any good (i.e. Not me!)

Sounds good just need to borrow some ladies clubs and go less than 9 swings to reach the hole hehe
