My Impreza is sick, it needs a water pump (well let's hope it's just that..). I need to get it from it's current resting place in downtown Bagshot, to Newbury. It'll tow fine and the transportation Co's are quoting big money for the 40 minute trip A329 - M4. Anyone fancy towing me up the A roads or sticking in on a A Frame for some cash in hand? Or, failing that if you're handy with a spanner with particular ref to Impreza's and can travel this is a job I imagine could be carried out in situ. Thanks in advance.

How urgent is this and would you mind being towed by a navara?

Hello

It's really not urgent at all, the cars been sat outside Bagshot Tyres (free parking) for the last month, whilst I've gotten around to sorting it out - hopefully it's a correct diagnosis... The workshop in Newbury has a slot (earliest) last day of this month or any time in June so if we can work something out there's absolutely no urgency, I'll work around whatever your schedule is, it's a 2nd car so not a daily driver.

Thanks

H

Just a thought but is it a difficult job to replace the water pump? Is it something a mobile mechanic could do for you where it's parked at the mo?
Would save all the ball ache of getting it towed.

I'm told that it's quite involved, my local mechanic look at his 'how to' labour book and basically said that he was too scared to touch it. 2 other garages kind of said the same, versions of 'you'll need a main dealer mate' so the only option left is to use a specialist. As it may need some other work for the MOT I thought I'd get it to Len at Subaru4u as he has worked on the car before (it's a bit unusual in having a 2.5 block and a myriad of uprated bits on it inc another ecu etc). An in situ repair would be ideal but I've not found anyone who's willing to take it on.

Mr Xl reckons its a nightmare job! Apparantly it involves removing the timing belts, pulleys and all sorts of technically fangled bits! We do have a pick up truck to tow with though!! hehe

Hi John, yes I have, they're a good team there and have looked off several of my cars including recently putting a new radiator in the Impreza. However, they diagnosed the water pump, looked at the guidebook on how to install it and through up their hands advising me to ''speak to an expert''. I'd rather they do than than give it a go not really feeling confident. Thanks to a guy on this forum I (well the car) now has a lift to Newbury to Subaru4u, Len there is a very experienced mechanic and I trust him to look after it on this as he knows the car and all of it's peculiarities, add ons, upgrades etc well. Indeed he mapped it when I got the Apexi.
