Anyone any idea what happened on the Windsor bypass today at about 17.00-ish? Held up in traffic for about 40 mins coming from the Slough direction, when we got to the front of the hold up there were lots of emergency services on both sides of the carriageway plus the TRL serious incident investigation unit but no obvious carnage.

Just after we passed the Bib closed the bypass so I assume it was quite serious.............

Not sure I was driving on the M4 att that time and that was fine. Did see something strange on the m25 where the police car was keeping cars back.

I heard it had been closed but no news yet, would have made kicking out time at Legoland interesting. I know Old Windsor was chaotic at that time so I assume everyone using here to get to M25.

Thankfully we were heading in the other direction but traffic had already backed up past the Texaco garage on Imperial Road and the bypass had only just been closed - I would imagine it probably backed up as far as Legoland!

Nothing on any travel or news web sites.

Coming through there this morning there was a sign up appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision, so obviously very serious.

Went past tonight, all the little yellow markings on the road from the AI unit, looks like a bike was involved. Not good, frown

"At approximately 5.05pm, a black Yamaha R1 motorcycle joined the A332 Windsor and Eton relief road from the slip road at the junction with the A308 Maidenhead Road. As the vehicle travelled northbound, the rider lost control and came off his bike, colliding with roadside furniture in the central reservation.

The motorcyclist was taken to Wexham Park Hospital, but died shortly after arrival." frown

Just read this, poor bugger - hence the reason we could not see any obvious carnage..........funny thing is just before joining the relief road at Eton there was a grey 360 going around and around the roundabout - not connected I am sure but a hell of a coincidence!

I have no knowledge if the 360 is important in this, but the Police are looking for witnesses, and want to speak to a Sports car driver who was allegedly near the road at this time.

I can confirm that it was a motorbike crash. I only fell across this thread and registered to post this, as I was trying to find out whether he survived ok.

I was travelling on the opposite carriageway and although I did not see the crash I stopped to help and it was obviously within minutes of it happening.

I had hoped that the guy would be ok as although in a bad way he was breathing, had an (albeit weak) pulse and remained semi conscious until the ambulance(s) arrived. I genuinely believed that the worst outcome would be that he had broken pelvis, leg and may lose his foot but I guess he must have had bad internal injuries as well.

It is worth saying that he was properly dressed in full racing leathers, gloves and boots.

This is the third time in the last five years I have had the misfortune to be in close proximity to a motorbike crash before the emergency services arrived. One where the girl was dead and could not be resuscitated, one where the guy quite literally died while I held him and now this one. This is why as I march steadily into middle age I have resisted temptation to buy a sportsbike and have bought a lotus instead.

Food for thought.

Yes, a nice woman also helped while lots of others gawped and rang people on mobiles.

There was another guy who we got to talk to the biker as well.

RDSR, well done for stopping but sorry to hear its your third time. When we passed there seemed to be a lot of people stopped at the side of the road in shock, hopefully the bib have enough witnesses to piece the incident together.

Never a nice thing to be the first on the scene, I was following a car that hit a pedestrian on the Uxbridge Road near Black park, car was travelling about 80 when he hit the guy and skidded for a few hundred meters after contact. I stopped and ran to the guy but it was obvious from one glance that there was nothing anyone could do. A very sobering experience.

MadDad / PH - thanks for the kind words. I am just one of those idiots that can't walk by.

MadDad - you must have passed after I left otherwise you would have seen my little lotus on your side of the carriageway causing an obstruction as I couldn't bump it up on the verge bit and sort of abandoned it! Not surprised that people were in shock as there were a lot of people who had a good look and it can't have been a pleasant sight.

Just read this :

"MAN ARRESTED AFTER BIKER IS KILLED ON WINDSOR ROAD
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal crash on the Windsor relief road A motorcyclist was travelling north on the A332 when he lost control and came off, colliding with roadside furniture. The Polish motorcyclist was taken to Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, where he later died. Witnesses to the crash at around 5pm on Sunday are asked to contact police. The man arrested in connection with the incident has been release on bail pending further inquiries."

Hopefully they can secure a prosecution if it is someone's fault. The thing that strikes me is that it probably wasn't a silly speed accident given the location. Just shows me, once again, how vulnerable you are on a bike.

I must be getting old as for some reason this one has shaken me up a bit. Maybe it's just some healthy perspective. I really thought that he would live.

I've had the misfortune to attend a Coroners inquest into a fatal bike/car collision - having heard the evidence/seen the photographs I know I never want to ride a bike.

It wasn't even a major collision, just have no protection whatsoever.

Hmm, sobering indeed, and at a traffic-lit slip: the lights make the junction super-safe..........if they are respected.........I hope that if someone is criminally responsible they are brought to justice.

I`m sure we are all used to seeing flowers mounted at the scenes of tragedy but the sight of the photo of the poor chap mounted at the lights is quite a choking experience.

I think it serves as a just warning of how short life is and how easily it can be shortened.

Hats off to you for stopping but how awful for you to see what you saw. frown

Such a shame the guy didn't make it, as Dave says, it does show us just how fragile life is.
