Right then,

I need to start looking in to a second car as follows

Diesel,
Less than 200 Tax Grams of Carbon (idealy less than 170)
Needs to be reasonable on the motorway (oxford-newcastle and back in a day)
Needs to look half decent
No older than 4or5years
Some form of residual value
Average 8k miles a year but in big lumps.

Was going to go for an 2004 X5 Diesel Sport but at 216grams is politcaly difficult

Answers on a postcard to......

Fabia VRS!

rough price guidline?

vectra, mondeo, all comfy long distance barges and should cost penuts. (blend in too so less likely to be pulled)

Price no so much an issue, and want to avoid the Vaux pop brigade.

Volvo S80 D5 - cracking motorway cruiser and fully loaded with toys for about £10k'ish?

Inevitable BMW's - 320D, 330D? Good residuals...

Jag X-type 2.0D?

VW Passat - would get a 3-5 year old loaded diesel for less than £10k? Good residuals...

All depends on money you want to spend really?

Personally I think you should get an E60 M5 and half yer journey time thus saving the planet by driving for less time!hehe
(and I know one thats about to appear on PH if you want an early viewing...)

S60 D5 to go with what John said - or the usual BMW options... an A4 / A6 to match your S3?

Is this a second car for you, or a car for the Mrs (I think you said it was for her)? If it's not this is probably a waste of money unless you're going to get a very cheap one like John did with his Passat.

In bound GREEN Policy so officially my company car "however the S3 or Replacement will be staying"

I have been warned in a friendly manner that Ze Germans will be expecting all managers to lead by example and have cars with less than 200/170Grams. there is some leeway but there has been a few comments on the S3 allready pmsl however as long as the car I officially list is under this then its fine, It was nice of him to warn me

It's the obvious choise. And on the plus side better fuel consumption on a run than the Mondeos/Vectras most of us end up in.

Most of us can advise that a 1 series with enough power is a LOT of fun and I believe 123d falls into that category.
