I was driving along the A33 towards Reading town centre today, when I was hit up the rear by a light blue mini Cooper, with 4 young lads in the car.

I got out of my car to check the damage and stupidly left my keys in the ignition, before I knew it one of the guys managed to get past me, into my car and drove off. The Reading police have been informed and the mini has now been dumped and found in wokingham (which was also stolen with stolen plates).

Apparently the same set of youths tried the same thing twice last night. They were irish, in their late teens to early 20's and the police think they may be travellers.

So just beware that this is happening in the Thames Valley area. Also if anyone happens to spot my car, I would really appreciate you calling your local police station, so we can hopefully get these b**tards and maybe get my car back.

I realise my stupidity has caused this and if I had acted differently then maybe this wouldn't of happened, but it all happened so quickly. Thanks.

That's terrible news! frown

I think all sense of the real world is sometimes lost in these sort of situations so don't beat yourself up about it and just be thankful that you weren't harmed/injured in the process. I know it seems easy for me to say as I haven't just had my car stolen, but you really do need to look at it that way sometimes.

I shall keep an eye out as I am often in the area. Maybe consider posting up the Reg of the car incase anyone sees it being driven around or parked up somewhere?

What he said, I hope the police are treating this as more than just a bog standard car theft and actually investigating.

Worth posting here too and mentioning that you were effectively car-jacked as this is something we rarely see in the UK - well, in the South East at any rate:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

There was another one at Heathrow about two weeks ago - 'S' Class Merc was hit at the rear and the driver was assaulted for his keys before they made off with the car...

mad

This makes my blood boil!! A part of me would love to give a car jacker the beating of his life but obviously if there are more than a couple of them it's a pretty dangerous situation.

Isn't it nice that you can't go for a drive somewhere without suspecting the worst? irked

Hi everyone, thanks for all your posts.

My car was found in Coventry at 1am in a ditch. Apparently I was the 11th victim in 12 hours (some of the victims were held at knife point). The car was used as a getaway car, whilst two of the lads robbed an old man after forcing their way into his house. The guys lost control in my car, hit a pedestrian, who is fighting for his life in hospital. The car rolled several times and ended up in a ditch, but walked away without a scratch! TYPICAL!

It's been recovered to a garage in Coventry but is obviously a complete right off. I've just met with the Reading police again to try and identify some of the b**stards that did this.

Apparently they are definately irish travellers who are hitting the Reading, Slough, Coventry, Surrey & Birmingham areas. So please take care.

Insurance is ok as luckily it was a company car, so my work place is sorting out all the hassle for me. I still feel really violated though and think they targetted me because I'm a woman and because of the car. Still don't know yet if my personal belongings are still in my wreck of a car or not. Also having to get locks changed because they potentially have my house keys.

At least I'm ok, everything else is material and can be replaced, still not a nice experience though. So please tell your girlfriends, wives, mates, relatives etc that this is happening, because as yet the police haven't caught them.

Thanks. Yea everything cancelled, getting locks changed tomorrow. Still quite shaken up though. I just want them caught, but they are travellers, so they will end up moving on and doing this in another town. At least several police teams in different areas are aware of them now.

Smiler.

What utter, contemptible bastids. I hope they rot in hell.

Where will this end. It seems that there is just no point in working hard to get on in life, when there are these low life a$$holes who just come and help themselves, without giving a $hite about anyone else's health or feelings.

I feel for you, and the deperate situation that the innocent pedestrian and his family have found themselves in.

It is sad when we need to take solace in the fact that you weren't physically injured.

I hope you are quickly over this, and manage to get back to a normal life as soon as poss.

Thanks. To be honest the whole thing could of been much worse, at least I didn't get held at knife point and I've walked away from this with hurt pride and a little shaken up. My thoughts go out to the poor pedestrian, I hope he pulls through. These b**stards will now be up for attempted murder, so I really hope the police catch them, before they actually kill someone. It's making me feel sick, just typing this.

Hopefully you should be ok, looks like they are targetting women. But not targetting Type R's as such. They'd already stolen a mini cooper S, 2 hours before me, which they used to hit me. Obviously decided that a Type R, might be a bit more fun that a cooper S. The most gutting thing was I'd waited for it for 6 months, been driving it for 3 months and now it's wrecked. I'd just started to really like it as well! This has kinda put me off getting another one.

Oh nono don't let them do that.

I was really shocked reading your post about what happened (and even more so, with what happened later) but you can't let this change your life IMO then these scumbags get even more than a nice car to play with for a few hours.

We seem to be doing a good line around here in getting people that have their cars stolen totally hammered if that'd make you feel better hehe
