My wife was speaking to someone today, who mentioned Blackbushe. They said that there are car events of some sort (involving going fast) down there. This is really local to me so interesting! I've searched this forum and can't find out much about it. My wife's friend said the place was a disused airstrip too, but their website seems to say different:

Anyone know much about the place?

There is Kart track there, gets used on Sundays for practice most weekends and racing about once a month.

There's a car auction there every week and they sell 100's of car within a few hours so I suppose you could say they do go fast

Blackbushe is an active airfield with two flight training centres, a control tower and a good cafe. It is in use almost every day of the year. As far as I know, There are now speed events held there, although there did used to be one many years ago.

It does have a large car park and would make a good meeting place for a hoon, os simply a meet up. I plan to organise something there later in the Spring.

On the far side, is the home of British Car Auctions (BCA) see the website for details. And as the other forumite said, there is also a Kart track.

Cheers

Yes I remember going to a drag meeting there around 1982 - it was just like Santa Pod and was a great day out but then for some reason it all got stopped! Any idea when they do the speed events?

I thought it was just the karting there. I'm not aware of anything else there nowadays.

Blackbush was used as a dragstrip from '63 (?) to '84 (I raced there '79-'84), AFAICR it was change of ownership (to British car auctions)which stopped the racing , that & the ever encroaching new housing estates of Yatley who then complained of the karting noise & karting then became restricted compared to before.
FYI Blackbush started out as RAF Hartford bridge flats.
