Jan 23rd - Charity Karting for Help for Heroes
Discussion
Hi All,
Help for Heroes are running a karting fundraiser on Wednesday 23rd January to raise money for the work they're doing, primarily with Headley Court.
The event will be at Team Sport's indoor track in Camberley and kicks off at 17:30. There will be 12 teams competing in a 2.5 hour endurance race, and each team will have a celebrity manager, such as Tom Onslow-Cole or Tom Chilton (both BTCC drivers for those who don't know). We would also get to livery the kart up with PH smileys or whatever.
The cost per team will be £595. This is for up to 6 drivers, although additional drivers can be added for £15 per head.
In addition to the race, there is also a live band, buffet and Scaletrix challenge.
The track layout is as below...
Would anyone else be interested in putting in a PH team? Stick your names below if so, and I'll post up further details as I get them...

I may be up for doing this. Will be able to give you a more definate answer after xmas, but put me down as a possible for now. I may also be able to find some more celebrity drivers. (Depending on who you have already.)
I'm not organising the event, just trying to round up people for a PH team, but I can put you in touch with the organisers if you want for possible other drivers. At the moment, I've seen the following celeb list - not all drivers, of course!:
Confirmed
Joey Foster - Le Mans & Prototype Driver
Tom Onslowe Cole - British Touring Car Driver
Tom Chilton - British Touring Car & Le Mans Series Driver
Suzy Perry - Presenter on the bike racing - I think?
Callum Holland - Formula 3 Driver
Sun Page 3 Girls
Unconfirmed
James Blunt - Singer
Leon Haslam - Super Bike Rider
I'll have to see if anyone is interested/available first. Unfortunately most of the drivers I know are not in this area and this would be a bit of a trek for them but I may be able to get hold of some BTCC and/or British GT drivers. Is there a website setup for this event? It would help in persuading people if I had something I could show them!

I'm interested but not 100% sure yet as I have some work stuff that might fall in the middle of that week, I should know in the new year.
Any idea what type of Karts they've got, because if they're the same shite ones they've got at the indoor place in lower early then I'm not sure I can be bothered as anyone that's smaller than me / us will have a huge advantage?

I've been to this track a few times. The karts are the bog-standard indoor variety, sometimes with large variation in performance between them. I would hope for a large event like this, they would make sure they're in good order though.Any idea what type of Karts they've got, because if they're the same shite ones they've got at the indoor place in lower early then I'm not sure I can be bothered as anyone that's smaller than me / us will have a huge advantage?
The track itself is quite small and tight making it quite hard to overtake. Larger people aren't at as big a disadvantage as you might think because it's quite twisty and more weight = better cornering.
My only real gripe with the track is the cost during the school holidays - it doubles!
I've been away on holiday, just got back yesterday, and have spent the day so far in hospital whilst Mrs Kermit gets injected with steroids and plugged into an insulin drip, so I've not had much chance to take any further action!
Basically, it's simply a case of entering a team if we can get 6 people, or not if we can't. I have the added complication of a baby which isn't due until Feb 12th, but could put in a showing any time from now on!

Thanks guys. It's a bit of a farce to be honest. She had a few minor symptoms before Christmas that made them think they might need to take the baby out early, hence the steroids to build up its heart and lungs. Normally, this would be a minor inconvenience as it would mean 4 injections at 12 hour intervals, but because she'd diabetic, and steroids play havoc with blood sugar levels, they have to put her on an insulin drip, which means she has to be admitted to hospital.
Then, to make matters worse, they have to do this on the delivery suite rather than up on a ward, so we got there at 09:30, and then didn't get the treatment started until 14:30 because of a series of emergency caesarians which - quite rightly - took priority, so she's now sat there with a background soundtrack of wailing women.
Finally to cap it all off, she has to test her blood sugar levels. This is something she has to do anyway, and involves pricking the end of a finger and squeezing blood onto a test strip. Normally, she does this 4 times a day. For the next 48 hours, she will have to do it every hour, right through, day and night.
