Being made redundant today!!
Discussion
Todays my last day at the Uni where I work. Am taking voluntary redundancy after three and a half years here.
Have recently moved to Bracknell, will be looking for a new job after xmas.
Other than the agencies in Bracknell town centre can anybody recommend and good recruitment agencies in the area. I'd like to get in with Microsoft if i can and would like to find out if any agencies deal with them....

Why not just take a look on http://members.microsoft.com/careers/international...
Find something you like the look of, and just apply direct to Microsoft.
Good luck with the job hunting!

I went through 3 rounds of interviews with MS, first up phone is pretty easy, they just use it to gauge technical knowledge, the second session involved going to their office for 3/4 of a day and working with/being interviewed by the team I was going to work with (corporate support) then you have an interview with the HR dept and the department head, get through those 3 and you're in. I got to the HR and managers interview and for some reason they hired the other guy I guess my question about why train simulator cost so much was a little random but I really had no idea what to ask, it's no like it's a company you don't know much about.
Oh yeah I got the interview through jobserve.co.uk, I can't remember the agency, I will look it up tonight for you.
PS best offices EVER!

Good luck! I was made redundant 8 years ago, which was a blessing in disguise really as I didn't particularly like the job.
Hope you manage to find something soon, Christmas is usually very quiet for recruitment. So with you no longer in work I bet you get tasked with all the Christmas preparations!

I was made redundant 6 weeks ago from a once large Networking company in Bracknell who's name begins with a big RED N
I am contracting at the moment a couple of days a week to cover the mortgage while I decide what to do next.
There is a lot of permy roles about at the moment (depending on what you do), Microsoft are always looking for the 'right' people, I am in discussions with them but am holding off a bit while I figure out what to do next, they do not recruit directly, they have Norman Broadbent (agency) 'in house' who handle all of the recruitment process.
Other companies in the area who are recruiting heavily are VMware, Adobe (desperate for people), EMC/RSA, Dell and quite a few smaller niche players - my advice would be to avoid agencies if you can and try contacting the companies you fancy working for directly.
Target your letter to the head of the department you want to work for and mark it private - if you send it to HR they very rarely know what to do with it so just send it around the building until it gets lost. I have had a few successful interviews through direct mail-shotting, another route you will have success with is drawing on your network. Think of the contacts you have made over the past 3 years, people you have worked with, suppliers etc - where are they now and what are they doing? I have an interview next week with a company who I would not have got through to via an agency (I don't have a degree so would not have been put forward), however I bumped into a friend who I have not seen for a couple of years who works there and hey persto I am seeing them next week!
I do have a couple of agencies that I would use if direct mail-shotting did not work, drop me a PM and I will pass on their details and the hints and tips I have been given by an outplacement agency

Thanks for all the tips. I'm not particularly looking for a job in IT although I'm trying to target large organisations which are in the IT trade. While i have the skills to build a pc and have a good general knowledge, i dont have a speciality in programming etc.
My previous jobs for the last 9 years have been within customer service and admin. I would like to try and break out a bit from that now though if possible. I'm qualified as an engineer but of the mechanical variety rather than electronic.!

Would it be fair to say you'd have the skills to work on a support desk but not create software? In which case any large organisation with an IT department would be worth targetting. Cant say it'll pay much though...My previous jobs for the last 9 years have been within customer service and admin. I would like to try and break out a bit from that now though if possible. Hey 350Wedge - GT3 has a point, forget about work and just sit in the drive listening to the burble!!
I am in the same boat, been in IT for about 12 years, worked for a number of services companies and S/W orgs but would really like a change, if I figure it out before you I will drop you a pm!!!
