A woman was brutally attacked and throttled with a cord while walking along a quiet country lane at the weekend.
The local woman, 55, was walking along Scarlett's Lane, in Kiln Green, near Waltham St Lawrence, at about 4.15pm on Sunday when a man came up from behind, placed what police describe as a ligature over her head and yanked her to the ground.
The woman managed to fight off her attacker and run down the road to a pub in Waltham St Lawrence and the police were called.
Police stressed that the attack is an isolated incident, but have warned the local community to be vigilant.
They are urging anyone who may have been in the Kiln Green area, and especially Scarlett’s Lane, at the time of the attack to contact them.
Scarlett's Lane was cordoned off on Sunday evening while a forensic team investigated the scene. It was reopened on Tuesday evening.
